Zack Snyder Celebrates Ben Affleck’s Batman Through Instagram
Since joining Instagram a few months ago, Zack Snyder has been actively sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses from his films. Notably, these include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Recently, in his latest post, Snyder shared a previously unseen black-and-white photo of Ben Affleck’s Batman. Moreover, the image showcases the brooding, realistic tone that defines his interpretation of the Dark Knight.
Following the upload, Snyder captioned the post:
“One of my favorite Batman photos.”
The upload quickly gained traction online, with fans praising Affleck’s darker and older portrayal, which developed a strong cult following despite mixed critical reception for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Ben Affleck’s Batman Journey and Career Highlights
Affleck reprised the role in Suicide Squad and Justice League. The production of Justice League was turbulent—Snyder exited the film following a family tragedy, and Joss Whedon took over, which reportedly led to on-set tension and challenges for the cast and crew.
Affleck later opened up about his struggles during that period, calling it a “difficult” experience that affected both his career and mental health.
Despite these challenges, Affleck’s portrayal of Batman remains one of the most memorable in modern cinema.
Abandoned Batman Project and Creative Vision
After stepping away from directing and starring in The Batman, Affleck candidly shared:
“I couldn’t crack it,”
He explained, saying he had lost creative enthusiasm for the project.
Storyboarding artist Jay Oliva praised Affleck’s unmade script, calling it:
“The best Batman script I’ve ever read.”
Describing a psychological, darker narrative exploring Batman’s descent into madness.
Cinematographer Robert Richardson highlighted that the script would have revealed a “darker side of Batman”, while director Matt Reeves described the project as having a “James Bond-ian” tone, combining intricate action with espionage elements.
Unfortunately, due to legal and contractual issues, Oliva confirmed the project is unlikely to ever reach live-action or animation production.
The Lasting Impact of Ben Affleck’s Batman
Snyder’s Instagram post not only celebrates his creative partnership with Affleck but also emphasizes the significance of Ben Affleck’s Batman in shaping the character for modern audiences. Their collaboration offered a darker, psychologically complex interpretation that continues to influence how fans and filmmakers view the Caped Crusader.
Fans continue to revisit Affleck’s performances across his appearances. His brooding moments in Batman v Superman and pivotal sequences in Justice League remain memorable. The iconic black-and-white photo shared by Snyder captures the essence of a Batman who is both imposing and human. It also reminds viewers of the actor’s unique contribution to the DC Universe.
