DC has officially released their panel lineup for next month’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), and despite the absence of many other major studios and companies, DC Comics is determined to make a mark at the event. With Marvel Studios, Sony Pictures, HBO, Universal, and Netflix opting out of SDCC this year, DC’s presence comes as a relief for comic book fans eagerly awaiting exciting announcements and updates.

The panels kick off on Wednesday, July 19, with Warner Bros. hosting a preview night in Ballroom 20. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch an all-new episode of Cartoon Network’s Teen Titans Go! and the premiere episode of Superpowered: The DC Story, a Max Original documentary series.
Thursday, July 20, marks the first day of film-related panels, starting with “Building the DC Universe on WEBTOON” in Room 4 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. PT. This panel will explore the integration of classic superheroes into the popular digital platform, WEBTOON. The panelists include Marie Javins (DC Editor-in-Chief), David Lee (VP of content for WEBTOON), and various comic creators, who will discuss the process and challenges of adapting DC superheroes for WEBTOON.

Simultaneously, in Ballroom 20, the “Max Original Animation Presents” panel will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PT. The panel will feature the creative teams and stars from animated shows such as Adventure Time, Young Love, and the upcoming fourth season of Harley Quinn. Attendees can expect exclusive sneak peeks, surprise guests, and exciting announcements during this session.
Later in the day, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PT, critically acclaimed comic writers Tom King and Tom Taylor will lead a panel titled “Between Two Toms” in Room 6DE. The Toms, along with special guests Nicola Scott and Mitch Gerads, will engage in a discussion about their work in the world of comics.
Following this, in the same room (Room 6DE), the “Gotham City” panel will take place from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. PT. DC storytellers will gather to discuss the future of Batman and his iconic city, providing insights into the next chapter of the Dark Knight’s adventures.
On Saturday, July 22, fans can head to Room 6DE for “The World of Metropolis” panel from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. PT. This session will focus on the city of Metropolis, showcasing the top comic book writers and artists behind the stories set in Superman’s renowned hometown. Attendees can look forward to exclusive details and announcements about the action-packed comics.
The final DC Comics panel will take place on Sunday, July 23, titled “DC Books for Young Readers” in Room 6DE from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. PT. This conversation will feature creators behind DC’s popular middle-grade and young adult graphic novels, including Nicole Maines, Sina Grace, Penelope and Jerry Gaylord, Jeffrey Brown, and Jim Benton. Exciting announcements about upcoming titles will be shared during this panel.
While the lineup offers a range of panels on the world of DC Comics, there is one notable absence: DC Studios. Whether or not DC Studios will be present remains uncertain. Given the absence of other major studios, the likelihood of DC Studios making an appearance seems low. Since the studio hasn’t completed any filming yet, substantial footage teases are unlikely. However, fans speculate that director James Gunn might showcase concept art or reveal new information about their upcoming projects. There is speculation that Gunn might unveil the proper villain of the highly anticipated film “Superman: Legacy” or share insights into other exciting DC Studios endeavors.
San Diego Comic-Con will be held in San Diego, California, from Thursday, July 20, to Sunday, July 23. While the absence of some major studios might dampen the overall atmosphere, DC Comics is determined to provide an engaging and thrilling experience for attendees.
With a diverse lineup of panels covering various aspects of the DC Universe, fans can expect exclusive sneak peeks, in-depth discussions with industry professionals, and exciting announcements about upcoming comic books, animated series, and graphic novels.
DC’s presence at SDCC reaffirms their commitment to engaging with fans and delivering captivating content. Despite the challenges and uncertainties of the current landscape, DC Comics remains dedicated to providing a memorable experience for all attendees. As the event draws nearer, anticipation grows, and fans eagerly await the surprises and revelations that DC has in store.
