Aaron Pierre, who stars as John Stewart, confirmed that filming on Lanterns has officially wrapped. Moreover, he described the shoot as massive:
“It was an enormous shoot. It was of a grand scale in every sense of the word.”
Acknowledging the long wait for fans, Pierre expressed his excitement:
“It’s been a long time coming for many fans and supporters. And I truly hope with all my heart that we make everybody proud and we make everybody thrilled that we did this, because we’re thrilled and we’re proud.”
This milestone shows that Lanterns is moving steadily toward its highly anticipated HBO release, which makes fans even more excited. Additionally, the large-scale production gives the series a cinematic feel, as it combines stunning visuals with complex action sequences that fully immerse viewers in the DC Universe.
John Stewart and the Relatable Green Lantern Corps
Furthermore, Pierre provided insights into his character, John Stewart, a new recruit training under veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler). In the series, the duo investigates a murder in Nebraska, which then uncovers a larger mystery, offering audiences a compelling mix of action, suspense, and character-driven storytelling.
What makes Lanterns truly special, according to Pierre, is the relatability of its heroes. He shared:
“One of the things that I love the most about the Lantern Corps is that, yes, they are heroes. Yes, they are celebrated and championed as such, but they embrace their flaws in a way that is beautiful. That makes them extremely relatable.”
He added that this humanity made the characters feel real:
“I know those guys. In real life, I know those guys.”
Pierre hopes this relatability will resonate with viewers:
“When you watch it, it almost makes you go, ‘You know what? If I can just figure out where to get my application, I could be in the Green Lantern Corps. The training would be intense, and the responsibility would be enormous, but I might be able to just apply for this and have a go.’ There’s just a relatability to it that is beautiful. Hopefully that resonates with everybody.”
The series also explores the Lanterns’ personal lives and challenges, showing that heroism involves choices, morality, and teamwork. This emotional depth helps Lanterns connect with both longtime DC fans and newcomers.
Star-Studded Cast and DC Universe Connection in Lanterns
In addition to Aaron Pierre, Lanterns features a large cast including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King develop the series for television, delivering a high-quality storyline.
Moreover, Lanterns is set to premiere on HBO in 2026 and serves as a core part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s evolving DC Universe. With its epic scale, relatable characters, and thrilling storytelling, the series is therefore poised to stand out in DC’s TV lineup.
Additionally, Lanterns will likely intertwine with other upcoming DC projects, setting the stage for crossovers with major heroes and story arcs. Fans can look forward to Easter eggs and references that enrich the viewing experience and connect the broader DCU.
