The DC Universe’s highly anticipated DCU’s Lanterns series has officially seen its release timeline adjusted. DCU’s Lanterns Will Premiere After Supergirl

Additionally, the series is now expected to premiere after Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is set for release on June 26, 2026. When a reader noticed a clue in The Hollywood Reporter’s newsletter, a writer confirmed the change, stating:

“You are quite the eagle-eyed reader. Yes, we expect Lanterns will now come out after Supergirl.”

This confirmation means that DCU’s Lanterns, which was previously expected to debut in early to mid-2026, will now likely release sometime after June 2026. This adjustment slightly alters the rollout order originally shared by DC Studios co-head James Gunn, marking a small but significant shift in DCU’s Lanterns early lineup.

James Gunn’s Original DCU Timeline

Originally, James Gunn revealed the release sequence for the DCU’s first chapter, saying:

“It’s really Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, Supergirl.”

This new adjustment flips the order slightly, moving DCU’s Lanterns to a later slot. Nevertheless, fans can still expect a major payoff. Gunn previously described the show’s tone as “grounded and believable,” comparing it to True Detective. He also praised the work of writers Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King, suggesting that DCU’s Lanterns will feature a deeper and more mature storytelling style than most DC projects.

Production Status and Possible Reasons for the Delay

Interestingly, filming for DCU’s Lanterns reportedly wrapped in early October, meaning the delay isn’t related to ongoing production. Instead, it likely reflects a strategic scheduling decision by HBO. The network’s 2026 lineup already includes heavy hitters like Euphoria Season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, so pushing Lanterns back gives the series its own spotlight later in the year.

The series will star Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Together, they will investigate a vast cosmic mystery that stretches from Earth to the outer reaches of space. With a noir-inspired tone and high production value, DCU’s Lanterns is shaping up to be one of the DCU’s most ambitious entries yet.

While the delay may disappoint eager fans, the decision could ensure a stronger release window and more focused attention when the series finally debuts. As the DC Universe continues to evolve, Lanterns is clearly poised to play a crucial role in the future of the franchise.
