DCU’s Supergirl

The DC Universe continues to take shape as DCU’s Supergirl officially introduces a second major villain. Meanwhile, the upcoming film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. In this story, she plays Superman’s Kryptonian cousin in a darker, more cosmic adventure.

According to a new report from Deadline, actor Diarmaid Murtagh has joined the cast as Drom Baxton, a dangerous new antagonist. As a result, Kara now faces more than one enemy. This addition, in turn, raises the stakes for her first standalone DCU movie.

Who Is Drom Baxton in DCU’s Supergirl?

In the film, Drom Baxton serves as the second-in-command to Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, the movie’s primary villain. Together, they are described as ruthless space pirates and human traffickers. Because of this, they rank among the most morally corrupt foes introduced in the DCU so far. As a result, Supergirl’s journey will test her values, strength, and resolve. In fact, it will challenge her in ways audiences have not seen before.

Murtagh is well known for his roles as Leif in Vikings, William “Buck” MacKenzie in Outlander, and Donal McDonnell in The Tourist. Because of this, his casting suggests a physically imposing and emotionally intense villain.

Supergirl Draws Inspiration From a Beloved DC Comic

DCU’s Supergirl is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the critically acclaimed comic series by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. In this story, Kara Zor-El appears more hardened and world-weary. As a result, she offers a sharp contrast to Superman’s hopeful outlook.

Importantly, Milly Alcock reprises her role as Kara after briefly appearing in 2025’s Superman, further strengthening continuity within the DCU.

Official Synopsis Teases a Cosmic Quest

The film’s official synopsis sets the tone for an epic space adventure:

“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”

Consequently, fans can expect a deeply personal story mixed with large-scale cosmic action.

DCU’s Supergirl Features a Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

Alongside Alcock and Murtagh, DCU’s Supergirl features an impressive supporting cast:

  • Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll
  • David Krumholtz as Zor-El
  • Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze
  • Jason Momoa as Lobo
  • David Corenswet reprising his role as Clark Kent/Superman

Meanwhile, Craig Gillespie (Cruella, Dumb Money) directs the film, with Ana Nogueira handling the screenplay. Additionally, DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran serve as producers, ensuring alignment with the broader DCU vision.

Supergirl is the second theatrical film in the DC Universe, following Superman. Moreover, it is part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which lays the foundation for future stories. At the same time, this chapter also includes Clayface, a body-horror film starring Tom Rhys Harries. That film is set for release on September 11, 2026. Looking ahead, Man of Tomorrow will arrive on July 9, 2027. In doing so, it will continue the ongoing Superman saga.

At last, fans won’t have to wait much longer. DCU’s Supergirl officially flies into theaters on June 26, 2026, bringing Kara Zor-El’s powerful and emotional journey to the big screen.
