DCU's Wonder Woman Update

A fresh era begins for the Amazonian warrior as James Gunn unveils a major DCU’s Wonder Woman Update. From the development of a new solo movie to ongoing casting buzz, here’s everything fans know so far.

A New Solo Wonder Woman Movie Is Officially in Development

James Gunn officially told Entertainment Weekly that DC Studios is developing a new Wonder Woman film. This project stands apart from the Paradise Lost series, which takes place in Themyscira before Diana’s birth.

We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now,

shared James Gunn.

Although the screenwriter hasn’t been named yet, Gunn still emphasized that the movie is already being written. As a result, this signals significant progress behind the scenes and suggests that development is well underway.

DCU’s Wonder Woman Update Confirms the DC Trinity Is Complete

This announcement confirms that all three members of the iconic DC Trinity—Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman—are set to receive solo films in the new DCU:

  • Superman (2025) – Completed and releasing on July 11, 2025
  • The Brave and the Bold (Batman) – Still in development
  • Wonder Woman – Now officially in the works

It’s a major milestone for the DCU’s rebooted roadmap.

Gal Gadot Will Not Return

Gal Gadot, who played Diana Prince in the DCEU, will not reprise her role in the DCU. Gunn’s vision involves a soft reboot with new actors stepping into major roles.

Gadot previously headlined:

  • Wonder Woman (2017)
  • Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
  • Justice League, Batman v Superman, and several cameos

When asked about her future as Wonder Woman, Gadot replied:

I have no idea. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Well, the new DCU’s Wonder Woman update kind of solidifies the end of her previous Wonder Woman era!

Who Could Be the New Wonder Woman?

Though the casting hasn’t been finalized, several fan-favorite actresses have been linked to or expressed interest in the role:

  • Adria Arjona (Andor) – Rumored to be the front-runner
  • Grace Caroline Currey (Shazam!) – Called the idea “wild
  • May Calamawy (Moon Knight) – Enthusiastically said:“If they want me to play Wonder Woman, I’ll play Wonder Woman.”

As excitement builds, expect more rumors (and possibly confirmations) soon.

Paradise Lost Series Still in Development

James Gunn reassured fans that Paradise Lost—a prequel series set in Themyscira—is still moving forward, although development has been slow. Styled as a political fantasy similar to Game of Thrones, the series will delve into Amazonian society, power struggles, and the mythological roots of Themyscira. Although Diana won’t appear, the project will likely set the stage for her eventual debut in the reimagined DCU.

The confirmation of a new Wonder Woman film highlights her crucial role in James Gunn’s overarching vision for the DC Universe. With DC Studios actively developing solo projects for all three core heroes—Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman—the studio clearly aims to establish a cohesive and revitalized narrative framework. This strategy deliberately moves away from previous continuity, presenting audiences with a modern timeline and reimagined character arcs shaped by a bold, unified creative direction.

Release Dates Still Unknown

So far, DC Studios has yet to announce official release dates for the new Wonder Woman film or the Paradise Lost series. However, major industry events such as San Diego Comic-Con 2025 or an upcoming DC Showcase will likely serve as ideal platforms for key updates. In the meantime, fans can look forward to announcements regarding the lead actress, the film’s official title and creative direction, as well as important details about the director and production schedule.
