HBO Max has been making waves in the world of streaming, particularly when it comes to their partnership with DC Studios. With James Gunn and Peter Safran leading the charge, HBO Max is set to release a slew of new DC-related shows in the coming years, all of which are eagerly anticipated by fans. In a recent interview with Variety, HBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys provided a status update on these various projects, revealing where things currently stand.

The first show out of the gate will be Creature Commandos, an animated series that is currently being written by Gunn himself. This will be followed by several live-action shows, including Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold. However, not all of these shows are at the same stage of development. Waller, which will star Viola Davis, is said to be “in active development,” while the other shows are still in the process of finding writers.

Bloys emphasized that he is enthusiastic about Gunn’s vision for the various shows, stating that “anything that James is excited about in terms of DC, I’m good with.” He also noted that the development process is ongoing and that HBO Max will have other options if any of the shows don’t turn out as planned.

“What’s most exciting is that they’ve got a plan,” Bloys said. “I just want to make sure for Max that they’re the best shows that we can do.”

While the development of these shows is still ongoing, HBO Max is also working on The Penguin, a spin-off series from Matt Reeves’s upcoming film The Batman. This show will follow the iconic villain played by Colin Farrell and will explore his rise to power in Gotham City.

Overall, it’s clear that HBO Max has big plans for the DC Universe, both on the big screen and on the small screen. With the talent of James Gunn and Peter Safran behind the various projects, fans can expect high-quality content that stays true to the source material. As for when we can expect to see these shows hit the streaming service, only time will tell. But with Bloys and company working hard behind the scenes, it’s sure to be worth the wait.
