DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has responded to fans who are upset that he’s promoting Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn, who moved from Marvel to DC in October, joined Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC studio co-CEO, along with Peter Safran, to oversee the DC Universe across film, television, and animation. However, some fans were disappointed to see Gunn promoting his upcoming Marvel movie on social media.
In response to the criticism, Gunn took to Instagram to address the issue. He stated, “The last thing DC would want is someone who would spend the last 12 years of his life creating a series of films, and then turn his back on his last movie.”
He further clarified that he wasn’t hired at DC without everyone on board being clear and supportive from the start of the process.

Gunn’s next project is Superman: Legacy, a reboot that explores Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. Gunn describes Superman as the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that often sees kindness as old-fashioned. Gunn’s Superman movie is considered the foundation of DC’s creative vision for the future of the DC Universe and the true beginning of the DCU.
Despite his involvement in both Marvel and DC projects, Gunn assured fans that he was hired by DC with everyone’s support, and he remains committed to his upcoming projects in both universes. He expressed excitement about the opportunity to work with DC characters and his vision for the future of the DCU with Superman: Legacy as its foundation.

Over All, while some fans may have expressed disappointment over James Gunn’s promotion of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn has clarified that he remains committed to his upcoming DC projects, including Superman: Legacy. As the co-CEO of DC Studios, Gunn is excited about the creative opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, and he continues to be supported by the DC team. Marvel fans can look forward to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hitting theaters on May 5th, and DC fans can anticipate the release of Superman: Legacy as the foundation of the future of the DCU.
