These shows are specifically designed to lay the groundwork for the rebooted cinematic universe. Furthermore, by 2026, more DCU projects—such as Supergirl, Lanterns, Clayface, and the Blue Beetle animated series—will continue to expand the universe.
How Peacemaker Season 2 Sets Up Man of Tomorrow
Following Superman, Gunn confirmed that Man of Tomorrow will release in theaters on July 9, 2027, starring David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Other DCU characters, such as John Cena’s Peacemaker, are also rumored to appear.
Interestingly, Gunn teased Peacemaker Season 2 as “the Man of Tomorrow prequel” on X, reinforcing its direct connection to the sequel. Gunn doubled down, clarifying that Peacemaker Season 2 “directly” sets up Man of Tomorrow. In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said the season “sets up all of the rest of the DCU.” He also described its storyline as “incredibly important” for the upcoming films.
Moreover, Gunn has emphasized that Season 2 serves as a “direct sequel” to Superman, not just a standalone series. In addition, the show revisits key characters, keeping the narrative connected. At the same time, it introduces Peacemaker’s interdimensional portal, which is similar to the rift technology Lex Luthor once used.
