DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that another actor is set to return to the newly rebooted DC Universe (DCU). After confirming that Viola Davis and Sean Gunn will reprise their roles as Amanda Waller and Weasel, respectively, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about who else will be joining them.
Gunn made the announcement on Twitter, wishing Steve Agee, who played John Economos in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, a happy birthday and teasing that the character will return “sooner than you think.” Agee’s portrayal of Economos, a humorous and lovable character, quickly became a fan favorite.

The question now is where and when Economos will make his return. With four new movies coming out this year before Gunn’s new story takes center stage, there are several possibilities for where the character could appear. One likely option could be Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, which saw Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt make a cameo in 2022’s Black Adam. However, the two franchises have largely been kept separate, making this a less certain bet.

For the Chapter 1 slate, there’s a good chance that Economos could appear alongside Viola Davis in her upcoming Waller solo series, following their team-up efforts in The Suicide Squad. Alternatively, with Sean Gunn reprising his role as Weasel in Creature Commandos, Economos may be in line for an animated appearance as this strange group of antiheroes takes the spotlight for the first time.
There’s also the possibility that Economos could make an appearance in Peacemaker Season 2, which is expected to go into production after Waller arrives on HBO Max early in Chapter 1. Agee played a key supporting role in Season 1 of the streaming series, and it’s likely that he’ll have a similarly significant role in the upcoming season.
While it’s still unclear how Economos’ past roles in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker will line up with the new upcoming projects from a canon/continuity standpoint, fans are excited to see him explore his character further in the expanding DCU. With Agee’s return now confirmed, fans can look forward to seeing him back on the big and small screens in the near future.

In the meantime, fans can catch Agee’s appearances in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker on HBO Max. With the DCU continuing to expand and new projects on the horizon, there’s plenty to keep fans excited about as they wait for Economos’ return.
