James Gunn, the director and co-CEO of DC Studios, has been accused of nepotism by some DC fans after his wife, Jennifer Holland, was cast in several DCU projects. However, Gunn was quick to shut down these accusations, pointing out that he only cast his wife in The Suicide Squad and had nothing to do with her casting in any other DC project.
“Stop putting your wife in every DC project,” was the accusation made in a tweet that James Gunn replied to. He responded by saying, “The only DCU movie I ever selected her for was The Suicide Squad. I had nothing to do with the casting of any other movie,” and added that the fan and other detractors were “deeply in need of reasons to hate.”

Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt in the DCU, has appeared in multiple TV shows and direct-to-video films before her involvement in DC. She started dating Gunn in 2015 and the couple got married in 2022, a month before Gunn and Peter Safran officially took over DC Studios.

In all her DCU appearances, Holland has played the hardened A.R.G.U.S agent Emilia Harcourt, who was assigned by Amanda Waller. She also features in the Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which is now playing in theaters worldwide.
While some fans may be quick to point fingers at Gunn for nepotism, it’s important to note that Holland’s previous acting experience and her consistent portrayal of Emilia Harcourt have likely contributed to her continued casting in DCU projects.
Gunn has also been working on a fresh slate of movies and TV shows for the DCU, including a new Peacemaker spinoff series, Waller, and Superman: Legacy, which he will direct. As he continues to take charge of overhauling DC Studios, it remains to be seen how he will navigate criticisms and controversies in the future.
