James Gunn’s latest comments about DCU’s Superman are sparking fan discussions. Many believe they hint at a possible Green Arrow debut. By limiting Superman’s powers, Gunn is reshaping how other heroes can fit into the growing DC Universe.
Superman is now playing in theaters across the United States. Directed and written by Gunn himself, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. This film continues the DCU reboot that officially began in December 2024 with Creature Commandos.
Why James Gunn Chose to Limit Superman’s Powers
In an interview with CBS Mornings, Gunn explained why he chose not to portray DCU’s Superman as an unbeatable force.
“There are some writers in the comics, like Grant Morrison, who took the idea of the all-powerful Superman and told great stories with it,” Gunn said.
“But, for me, yes. As a child, the reason I liked Batman better than Superman was because Superman was just too strong at times. We’re building a whole universe of characters. I didn’t want to have one guy who was so much stronger than anybody else that a guy with a bow and arrow didn’t matter.”
Many fans now wonder whether Oliver Queen, also known as Green Arrow, will finally join the DCU.Gunn’s creative direction has fueled that speculation.
Could Green Arrow Join DCU’s Superman Soon?
Although no casting for Oliver Queen has been confirmed yet, Gunn’s mention of “a guy with a bow and arrow” still felt very deliberate. In fact, many fans took it as a subtle hint toward Green Arrow’s future in the DCU.It may even be a quiet hint at Green Arrow’s arrival.
The DCU is already filling up fast. After Superman, upcoming titles include Peacemaker Season 2, Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface, all expected to arrive in 2026. Clearly, the world around DCU’s Superman is growing rapidly.
The ensemble cast of Superman includes several notable names. Edi Gathegi plays Mister Terrific, while Anthony Carrigan appears as Metamorpho. Nathan Fillion takes on the role of Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced plays Hawkgirl, and Skyler Gisondo portrays Jimmy Olsen.
Additionally, the supporting cast features Sara Sampaio, Wendell Pierce, Beck Bennett, and Mikaela Hoover. María Gabriela de Faría also joins the lineup as Angela Spica, also known as The Engineer.
Now that Superman’s power has been scaled back, street-level heroes like Green Arrow finally have a real chance to shine. As a result, fans are more excited than ever about what’s coming next.
