” This Superman is not Henry!”

James Gunn, the director of the upcoming Superman movie, has recently confirmed that the movie will revolve around a young version of the superhero and will focus on the first few years of his crimefighting career in Metropolis. This movie is set to be a fresh start for the iconic character and will be a departure from the previous adaptations of the character.

Gunn, who is well known for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, confirmed that he has decided to recast Henry Cavill as the new Superman. He stated that the casting decision was not based on his personal feelings towards Cavill, but rather on who he feels is the right fit for the character. Gunn mentioned that Cavill was never actually cast as Superman, but rather appeared in a cameo role.

“First of all, we didn’t fire Henry,” Gunn said during the DC Studios event. “Henry was never cast. Henry was in a cameo and that was the end of his story. A lot of people made assumptions out of that that weren’t necessarily true. But for me, it’s about who I want to cast as Superman and who does the filmmaker who is making a movie want to cast. For me, for this story, it isn’t Henry. I like Henry. He’s a great guy. I think he’s gotten getting di—d around by a lot of people, including former regimes at this company. This Superman is not Henry… for a number of reasons.”
In addition to the casting of the new Superman, Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-head of DC Studios, have shared their vision for the future of the DC Universe. They stated that their vision includes a unified storyline across different platforms, including film, television, animation and video games. They also mentioned that their eight-year plan for the DC Universe is not a full reboot and that elements from previous DC adaptations could make a return in the future.
The DC Universe is currently in the midst of an exciting time with various projects such as Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in various stages of post-production.
