Matt Reeves Finishes Script for The Batman Part 2

In a major development for DC fans, director Matt Reeves has officially completed the script for The Batman Part 2. Working alongside Mattson Tomlin, Reeves has reached a significant milestone that finally puts months of speculation about delays or cancellation to rest. On June 27, Reeves confirmed the news by sharing a behind-the-scenes post featuring Tomlin—once again reassuring fans that the “epic crime saga” is very much alive and continuing.

James Gunn is Yet to Read the Script!

Although he hasn’t read the finished script yet, James Gunn has addressed the project publicly. Speaking to ComicBook.com, he explained:

“I have not. I have not. I’m so excited to read it, and I’m hoping I can read it on the plane to London tomorrow, but I also might fall asleep.”

Gunn clarified that his delay isn’t due to disinterest; rather, it stems from exhaustion caused by the ongoing Superman press tour. Despite this, his tone consistently emphasized that The Batman Part 2 is still very much on track. In fact, he made it abundantly clear that the sequel remains a priority.

Will Robert Pattinson Join the Main DCU?

In a separate interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn addressed the possibility of Robert Pattinson’s Batman becoming the main DCU version:

“It would be a consideration. We’d have to think about it. It is not like we’ve never discussed it. I would never say zero [chance]… But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all.”

This makes it clear that Pattinson’s Batman will continue to exist in a separate continuity, much like Todd Phillips’ Joker universe.

James Gunn Confirms the Film Is Still On

To silence online rumors, Gunn delivered a direct confirmation:

“I’ll also say Batman Part 2 is not canceled. That’s the other thing I hear all the time… It’s not canceled. We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.”

Clearly, both Gunn and DC Studios remain committed to supporting Reeves as he crafts his vision at his own pace. In the meantime, this approach not only allows for creative freedom but also aligns with the thoughtful, deliberate style that defined the first film. As a result, it’s a move that, without a doubt, fans will genuinely appreciate.

What Can We Expect from The Batman Part 2?

Although the official plot remains under wraps, for now, here’s what we do know so far:

  • Title: The Batman Part 2 (subject to change)
  • Villains Rumored: Hush, Mr. Freeze
  • Setting: Likely winter, based on past teasers from Reeves
  • Returning Cast: Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, and others. However, Paul Dano’s Riddler may not return. Characters from HBO Max’s The Penguin series are expected to appear.

Given Reeves’ commitment to noir-style storytelling and grounded realism, The Batman Part 2 could push the franchise into darker, more psychologically intense territory—especially if Hush becomes the central villain.

Now that the script is complete and with James Gunn’s enthusiastic support, The Batman Part 2 is clearly gearing up to become one of the most anticipated DC releases. Meanwhile, fans eagerly await casting updates and production details. Above all, one thing is certain: the Bat is back—and he’s not alone in the shadows.
