James Gunn Shares His Honest Reaction to Trisha Paytas’ Baby Name

During a July 27 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gunn openly shared his thoughts on the unusual name:

“I think that’s cool. I mean, I hope he does okay in school.”

The 58-year-old director then reflected on his school days, where he endured teasing over his surname:

“They used to call me Tommy gun, raygun…”

Still laughing at the situation, he then wondered aloud:

“Are they gonna call him AQ? Do kids make fun of kids anymore?”

Although Gunn seemed amused yet slightly concerned, his fellow actors Frank Grillo and Tim Meadows—who were also present during the interview—quickly stepped in to reassure him that the baby would “be fine.”

Why Trisha Paytas Chose the Name Aquaman for Her Baby

Meanwhile, on her Just Trish podcast, Trisha offered a deeper explanation for the water-themed name. It turns out the decision was both personal and symbolic:

“Not only is it so related to me, but it’s also so related to Moses. Cancer is a water sign, Moses loves water… we needed a water-themed name.”

The couple even considered the name Water Snake at one point, inspired by a poem Moses had written. However, the name Aquaman felt like the perfect match, blending Trisha’s love for the DC character with Moses’ strong connection to water.

Public Reactions and More About Trisha Paytas’ Baby

Naturally, the internet had a lot to say. Over the past few days, reactions have ranged from admiration to amusement. While some fans openly praised the boldness of the name, others couldn’t help but joke about it. Still, despite the mixed opinions, almost everyone agreed it was classic Trisha.

Baby Aquaman was born on July 12, 2025, and joins his siblings Malibu (2) and Elvis (14 months). The couple is known for choosing names that reflect their unique personalities and creative expression, and this latest one is no exception.

James Gunn’s response to Trisha Paytas’ baby is not only hilarious but also genuinely heartfelt. In fact, it highlights how even the most unexpected celebrity moments can, surprisingly, cross into the world of the DC Universe. After all, who knows? Perhaps little Aquaman will one day grow up to be a real-life superhero—he’s already got the name for it.
