Fan Support Grows for Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the DCU
Since his debut in Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022), Robert Pattinson’s Batman has captured a passionate fanbase. Thanks to its gritty realism, noir tone, and grounded detective-style narrative, this new version of the Dark Knight quickly earned widespread praise. As a result, many fans now see Pattinson’s portrayal as a refreshing and compelling take on the iconic character.

“’All’ would seem to be pushing it.”
His response, though brief, sent a clear message: the DCU is heading in a different direction.
Robert Pattinson’s Batman Will Stay in DC Elseworlds
Although Robert Pattinson’s Batman will continue appearing in upcoming films, his story remains outside the main DCU continuity. Instead, this version of the character—along with Matt Reeves’ unique vision for Gotham—belongs to the DC Elseworlds label, which offers creators a space to tell standalone stories separate from the core timeline.
The sequel, The Batman – Part II, will release on October 1, 2027. Until then, Pattinson continues to represent an alternate Gotham—one that remains entirely separate from the shared universe Gunn and Safran are actively developing.
The DCU’s Batman Will Be Someone New
Although a Batman will appear in the main DCU, it will not be played by Robert Pattinson.
Instead, The Brave and the Bold—a new film inspired by Grant Morrison’s comic run—will introduce a brand-new Batman alongside his son, Damian Wayne. Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash, is already confirmed to helm the project. However, DC Studios has yet to reveal any casting details for the DCU’s Batman.
Gunn has consistently emphasized that Robert Pattinson’s Batman and the DCU’s Batman are two distinct characters, each existing in a separate timeline.
Where the DCU Stands Now
The new DCU officially launched in December 2024 with the animated series Creature Commandos. It will move forward with Superman, arriving on July 11, 2025, and continue shortly after with Peacemaker Season 2 in August 2025.
CEO David Zaslav has emphasized that the DCU’s core will center around:
- Superman (David Corenswet)
- Supergirl (Milly Alcock)
- Wonder Woman (TBA)
- Batman (TBA)
DC Studios is currently developing a new Wonder Woman film, although they haven’t announced casting yet. Meanwhile, fans eagerly await updates on who will play the DCU’s Batman.
Two Batmen, One Multiverse
James Gunn’s recent comment reaffirms the studio’s stance: Robert Pattinson’s Batman is not part of the DCU. Instead, DC Studios is committed to keeping Matt Reeves’ vision separate, allowing both Batmen to thrive in their own unique stories.
This approach offers fans the best of both worlds:
- A gritty, grounded Batman in The Batman – Part II
- A new, comic-inspired Batman in The Brave and the Bold
As the DCU takes shape, the multiverse is expanding — and that means more Batmen, not fewer.
