Rumors are swirling in the DCU as industry insiders claim that James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film will see the Man of Steel face off against The Authority. According to insider KC Walsh, Superman will clash with this team of powerful villains in the DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters.
For those unfamiliar with The Authority, they are a group of powerful individuals with extreme methods, similar to the Suicide Squad. In fact, The Authority has been described as a more intense version of the famous DC team. It’s easy to see why Superman would find their methods questionable, and a clash between them is sure to be exciting.
Interestingly, DC Comics recently published a comic series called Superman and The Authority, which saw Superman putting together a new team to handle jobs that the Justice League wouldn’t. This could provide some insight into what we might see in the upcoming film, although it’s worth noting that the comic and the movie may not necessarily be closely related.
Alongside the news of The Authority’s involvement, Walsh also revealed a few other tidbits about James Gunn’s Chapter 1. It seems that Animal Man will make an appearance, as will Lobo, who was previously rumored to appear in 2025’s Superman: Legacy. The JL New Frontier will also serve as an inspiration at some point, while Peacemaker’s second season is still happening. Additionally, there are rumors of a Mr. Terrific project in the works.
Of course, it’s important to remember that all of this information is just rumor at this point. Neither Warner Bros. nor DC Studios have confirmed any of these details, so it’s possible that they may change or turn out to be untrue.
Despite the uncertain nature of these rumors, fans of Superman and the DCU will no doubt be excited at the prospect of seeing the Man of Steel face off against The Authority. With a new take on the character from James Gunn, there’s sure to be plenty of surprises and thrilling action in store.
