Are you a fan of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad? If yes, this update from James Gunn might disappoint you. After the huge success of DC’s Peacemaker TV series, James Gunn is more interested in working on TV series than a movie project.
Following The Suicide Squad’s release, Gunn produced Peacemaker, a series with John Cena’s Christopher Smith in lead. The DC television series was exclusive for HBOMAX and became the most viewed series in the platform.
James Gunn recently told to The Playlist that he’s going to work on developing tv series next year.

"
Yeah, we’ve talked about it [a sequel to The Suicide Squad] … but the honest truth is, I just have so many hours in a day to work on stuff. And I had such a fun time working in television that I really think that’s what I’m going to spend the next year of my life doing.
"

While James Gunn’s next release is Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 which will be his final installment as director of the series, Gunn is planning to work more with DC in the future. The director previously showed interest in developing Harley Quinn content for DC featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. But who knows what the future holds. Peacemaker season 2 has been green-lit and there are multiple possible spin-off shows in the works from The Suicide Squad on HBO Max.
