James Gunn’s Superman Digital and Physical Release Dates

James Gunn’s Superman will debut on Digital and VOD on August 15. Specifically, platforms include Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Interestingly, this is 11 days earlier than planned. Meanwhile, physical copies on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will be available on September 23, approximately two and a half months after its July theatrical release.

This home release arrives during an impressive box office run, with Superman grossing $579 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing superhero movie of 2025 so far. Clearly, audiences are still flocking to see Clark Kent’s latest adventure before it even hits living rooms.

Fans are in for a treat with a gag reel, deleted scenes, and a director’s commentary with James Gunn. In addition, the release will include several featurettes:

  • Icons Forever: Superman’s Enduring Legacy – 6:05

Also included is a five-and-a-half-minute short, Krypto Saves the Day!: School Bus Scuffle. While it’s not labeled as a featurette, some fans believe it could be the first of at least four planned Krypto short films, potentially expanding the Super-Family on-screen universe even further.

The Cast and Story

Starring David Corenswet as Superman, the film follows Clark Kent as he faces challenges both abroad and at home. At the same time, Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor exploits these circumstances in a bid to remove the Man of Steel permanently. As a result, the stakes are higher than ever for the iconic hero.

The cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), and Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho). Additionally, Nathan Fillion joins as Guy Gardner, while Isabela Merced appears as Hawkgirl. Meanwhile, Skyler Gisondo plays Jimmy Olsen, María Gabriela de Faría portrays The Engineer, and Wendell Pierce rounds out the ensemble as Perry White.

What’s Next for the DCU

Following Superman, Peacemaker Season 2 premieres on August 21. For 2026, DC Studios has Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface on its schedule. James Gunn is also developing “the next installment in the Super-Family” — not a direct sequel, but a project that will prominently feature Corenswet’s Superman. Moreover, early discussions suggest possible TV spinoffs for Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen.
