The Joker sequel was announced recently by director Todd Phillips with through an Instagram post. The director is currently working on a script for the same along with co-writer Scott Silver. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Joker sequel will introduce the character of Harley Quinn and is reportedly billed as a “musical”.
The title of the sequel has been announced as Joker: Folie à deux by Phillips.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s report, Lady Gaga is in talks to play Harley Quinn in the sequel. Previously, the role of Harley Quinn has been played by Margot Robbie in the DCEU films including Suicide Squad series and also a standalone film, Birds of Prey. If this deal works out, this will mark Lady Gaga’s superhero debut.
Joaquin Phoenix, who won best actor Oscar for his performance as Arthur Fleck aka Joker, is expected to return but his deal has yet to be closed.
Details on Gaga’s character are still unknown, but Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum who falls in love with him and becomes his partner-in-crime.
