New images from the upcoming DC Universe series Lanterns have surfaced online after the show’s teaser trailer release. The images give fans a closer look at characters connected to the Green Lantern mythology. They also hint at the tone of the upcoming series.

The show is part of the new DC Universe slate developed by James Gunn. Lanterns will premiere on HBO Max later this year.

Lanterns Images Shared on Social Media

HBO Max shared the new Lanterns images on its official social media accounts with the caption:

“Don’t be afraid. #Lanterns is coming this August.”

The post quickly caught the attention of fans eager to see more from the upcoming DC series.

The images offer new glimpses of the characters in the story. They also reinforce the grounded tone introduced in the teaser trailer.

Lanterns Story Centers on a Mysterious Investigation

Unlike previous Green Lantern adaptations that focus on cosmic battles, Lanterns takes a more grounded investigative approach. The story is set in Nebraska, where two members of the Green Lantern Corps investigate a mysterious death.

The investigation could uncover deeper secrets connected to the wider DC Universe.

The series follows veteran Lantern Hal Jordan and newer recruit John Stewart as they work together to solve the case. Together, they begin to uncover clues that may reveal a larger mystery.

Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre Lead Lanterns

In Lanterns, Kyle Chandler plays the experienced Green Lantern Hal Jordan. He portrays a seasoned member of the Corps who takes on a mentoring role.

Meanwhile, Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart, a newer recruit who is still learning the responsibilities that come with being part of the Green Lantern Corps.

The teaser trailer mostly highlights character interactions and the mystery behind their mission rather than showcasing large-scale action sequences.

Lanterns Teases a Wider Green Lantern Universe

One memorable moment in the teaser shows Hal Jordan mentioning another Corps member with the line,

“One of them is a f—ing squirrel.”

In fact, the comment references Ch’p, a Green Lantern from the planet H’lven who resembles a squirrel in DC Comics.

As a result, the reference confirms that the broader Green Lantern universe exists within the new DCU. However, the series itself continues to focus on a smaller, more grounded story.

The world of Lanterns will also connect to other characters appearing across the new DC Universe. For example, Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner, another well-known Green Lantern who has already appeared in Superman as part of Maxwell Lord’s Justice Gang.

Meanwhile, Ulrich Thomsen will portray Sinestro, the former mentor of Hal Jordan who later becomes one of the most famous antagonists in Green Lantern lore.

The Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic peacekeeping force that protects the universe. Members wield powerful rings capable of creating energy constructs fueled by the user’s willpower.

The Guardians of the Universe created these rings. These ancient beings are responsible for maintaining order across the cosmos.
