MATT REEVES TALKS ABOUT BEN AFFLECK'S "JAMES BOND-IAN" BATMAN SCRIPT!

By, S.C/ JANUARY 30, 2022

According to Matt Reeves, Ben Affleck’s Batman script had connections with DCEU and a lot of action.

Ben Affleck was cast as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the DC Extended Universe nearly a decade ago. And soon after, Affleck was announced to write, produce, direct and be The Batman’s star. However later, Affleck stepped down from from the director’s chair. Matt Reeves was approached to direct Affleck’s script before he went in his own direction.

In 2019, Ben Affleck revealed that he was no longer interested in continuing as DCEU’s Batman. He said he lost the “passion” he had for the playing the character. Following Affleck’s departure from the entire project, Matt Reeves took complete control and the search for the next Batman was on-going, which eventually ended up in Robert Pattinson wearing cape and cowl.

Recently Reeves opened up to Esquire about Affleck’s original screenplay, recalling the initial conversations he had with Warner Bros about where he wanted to take the character.

"

“I read a script that they had that was a totally valid take on the movie, It was very action driven. It was very deeply connected to the DCEU, with other major characters from other movies and other comics popping up. I just knew that when I read it this particular script was not the way I’d want to do it.”

Matt Reeves wanted to tell the story in his own style, he reveled that he wanted to create a full arc for Bruce Wayne as Batman.

He said :

While fans won’t get a chance to see Affleck’s version on the big screen, Batman seems to be in good hands with Reeves. Ben Affleck’s Batman movie would have featured Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke as the main villain, and was also set to introduce Batgirl. The Batman’s story is set in the Dark Knight’s second year. The Batman will also be completely separate from the DC Extended Universe. But it will have some HBO Max spinoff series featuring The Penguin and Gotham PD.
