Fans have been eagerly waiting for news about Peacemaker Season 3 ever since the previous season ended on a dramatic note. The finale left John Cena’s Christopher Smith in a dangerous situation after he became trapped on the mysterious Salvation planet.
Naturally, this cliffhanger made viewers expect another season soon. However, recent comments from people involved with the series suggest that Peacemaker Season 3 might take longer than fans originally hoped.
Peacemaker Season 3 Could Depend on Other DCU Stories
Recently, actress Jennifer Holland shared a fresh Peacemaker Season 3 update during the 2026 Saturn Awards. The series won the award for Best Superhero Television Series, which once again proved its strong fan support.
While speaking about the future of the show, Holland revealed that a third season could depend on other upcoming DCU stories.
She explained:
“Because of that, the potential of Season 3 of Peacemaker kind of revolves around things that might happen before it.”
She also kept the situation open-ended, saying:
“So we’ll see what happens.”
Her comments suggest that the storyline for Peacemaker Season 3 might be tied to events happening elsewhere in the DC Universe. As a result, the show may not return until those larger narratives unfold.
Upcoming DCU Projects Could Shape Peacemaker Season 3
Interestingly, Holland pointed out that several upcoming DCU projects could have a major influence on Peacemaker Season 3.
Among the projects she mentioned were Supergirl, Lanterns, and Man of Tomorrow. According to Holland, these stories will play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the universe.
She explained that they could have:
“Major ramifications for the universe.”
Because of this interconnected approach, DC Studios may first establish key storylines in those projects before continuing the events of Peacemaker Season 3.
Therefore, while a third season remains possible, the timing could depend entirely on how the broader DCU narrative develops.
James Gunn Previously Addressed Peacemaker Season 3 Plans
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has also spoken openly about the future of Peacemaker Season 3. In an earlier conversation with Deadline, Gunn clarified that the studio’s current focus is on building the new DC Universe.
He said:
“No, this is about the wider DCU and other stories in which this will play out right now.”
This statement indicates that DC Studios is prioritizing other projects that help establish the larger narrative framework.
However, Gunn also emphasized that Peacemaker remains an important character within the DCU.
He added:
“That doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU. It’s an important character.”
Peacemaker’s Story Could Continue Beyond the Series
Even though Peacemaker Season 3 may not happen immediately, Gunn has made it clear that the character will return in some form.
During an appearance on Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, he hinted that the character’s future may not necessarily be limited to another season of the show.
Gunn said:
“Peacemaker will be back. As this TV show? We’ll see exactly what form.”
He also teased that DC Studios already has long-term plans involving the character and other familiar faces from the series.
He added:
“We have plans, but you’ll see all these characters in the future of the DCU, and not too long.”
This strongly suggests that Peacemaker Season 3 is not the only way the character could return to the screen.
The new DC Universe is currently going through a major creative reset under James Gunn and Peter Safran. Because of this, many projects are being carefully planned to ensure they connect with one another.
As a result, Peacemaker Season 3 may need to wait until other key stories are introduced first. While that might be disappointing for some fans, it could ultimately help strengthen the overall narrative.
In the meantime, viewers can still expect to see Peacemaker appear somewhere within the expanding DCU. Whether that happens in another series, a crossover project, or eventually Peacemaker Season 3, the character clearly remains part of DC Studios’ long-term plans.
