James Gunn Reveals Peacemaker’s Deleted Scene
Recently, James Gunn opened up about Peacemaker’s deleted scene during Peacemaker: The Official Podcast. Interestingly, in the early script, John Economos almost shared an awkward moment with Vigilante’s mother. Moreover, Gunn described the moment vividly:
“In one of the original scripts, I had Vigilante’s mom rolling around on the couch, making out with John Economos.”
The gag shocked Vigilante just before he entered his basement, creating a chaotic comedic beat in the storyline.

In the scene, the script had Vigilante exclaiming, as if in disbelief:
“Oh… my mom is [with] John Economos, dude,” before walking away in disbelief.
Unsurprisingly, the absurdity of the scene caused genuine laughter on set. Additionally, Steve Agee (Economos) and Jennifer Holland (Harcourt) reportedly found the draft hilarious, further noting just how outrageous the scene was compared to the final episode.
Why Peacemaker’s Deleted Scene Was Cut
Ultimately, the creators removed the scene to maintain pacing and tone. Moreover, including it would have disrupted the episode’s flow as well as the focus of Vigilante’s Earth-2 storyline. Instead, the final episode deliberately emphasized interactions with Vigilante’s alternate self, along with quirky discoveries within his house, such as:
- “Cheeriohs” cereal boxes
- Eccentric lawn ornaments
- Other humorous Easter eggs that reflected the alternate universe
Overall, this approach allowed the show to effectively balance comedy with narrative clarity, thereby keeping the story engaging and entertaining for viewers.
Casting Choices That Enhanced the Humor
Additionally, Taylor St. Clair was cast as Vigilante’s mother, bringing a perfect mix of humor and discomfort to her scenes. Furthermore, her portrayal helped enhance the eccentric dynamics of the alternate universe, thereby making even deleted scene concepts feel grounded and hilariously entertaining in hindsight.
