Martin Campbell, the director of Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern (2011), recently reflected on the movie’s poor reception. While he openly admitted the film was a failure, Campbell shared his appreciation for the humor and talent that Reynolds brought to the set.

“Oh, it’s fair enough. People didn’t like it. It failed, right? I was the director, so I take the heat”

Campbell said. Despite this, he enjoyed working with Reynolds and Blake Lively, calling the experience

“terrific.”

Campbell pinpointed the script as the biggest issue with Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern.

He stated,

“I wish to God Ryan Reynolds had written the script, and it would have been great.”

The director praised Reynolds’ success with Deadpool, showcasing his strengths in both writing and comedy.

Ryan Reynolds has consistently made light of Green Lantern’s shortcomings, often mocking the film in interviews and even in his own movies. Campbell doesn’t mind the jokes, saying,

He’s always taking jabs at it, and fair enough.”

The director appreciates Reynolds’ ability to handle the film’s reception with humor.

No Involvement in the New DCU for Green Lantern Director

While James Gunn’s DCU is set to reboot the Green Lantern franchise, Campbell confirmed he hasn’t been contacted for involvement, stating,

“No, of course, they won’t reach out to me.”

Despite the failure of Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern at the box office, Campbell fondly recalls the camaraderie on set. He especially enjoyed working with Reynolds and Blake Lively, who met during the production of the film.

“Blake was terrific,”
