James Gunn’s upcoming DC reboot “Superman: Legacy” is slowly but surely coming together with the casting process now underway. One of the key roles that needs to be filled is that of the villainous Lex Luthor, who has been a recurring thorn in Superman’s side since the character’s creation.

According to a recent report from The Wrap, the antagonist role in “Superman: Legacy” is labeled as “Apex” and Gunn has been considering Black actors for the part. It’s worth noting that in the comics, there is a character called Apex Lex Luthor who has a hybrid human/Martian body and possesses incredible physical strength that allows him to go head-to-head with Superman.

While it’s unclear if the version of Lex Luthor in Gunn’s film will be Apex, it’s exciting to consider the possibility of seeing this formidable foe on the big screen. With Gunn’s creative vision and the talents of a skilled actor, this could make for a memorable portrayal of one of DC’s most iconic villains.

Aside from the potential casting of Apex Lex Luthor, the process for filling other roles is also underway. Sources indicate that several actors are in the running for the role of Superman, including Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, Jacob Elordi, and Andrew Richardson. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan, Emma Mackey, and Samara Weaving are among those being considered for the role of Lois Lane.

Phoebe Dynevor, another British actress, is also in the running for the part. Dynevor gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Daphne Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton. The 28-year-old actress has been praised for her ability to bring depth and nuance to her characters. Her natural poise and elegance would make her a great choice for Lois Lane.

It’s exciting to see the direction that Gunn is taking with “Superman: Legacy” and the new era that it will kick off for the DC Universe. Gunn and Peter Safran are set to spearhead a new interconnected series of films and TV shows, promising a fresh take on the beloved superhero and his universe.

With the film’s release date set for July 11, 2025, there’s still plenty of time for the cast to come together and for more details to emerge. Fans of Superman and DC will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating any updates on this highly anticipated project.
