THE SNYDERVERSE WOULD'VE REDEEMED RYAN REYNOLDS' GREEN LANTERN!

Zack Snyder’s unrealized plan for the DCEU and Justice League sequel would have redeemed Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern after the 2011 film’s poor reception.

Ryan Reynolds was Zack Snyder’s first pick for the role of Hal Jordan. In Snyder’s version of Green Lantern, Hal Jordan would have been a supporting character, starring alongside Wayne T Carr’s John Stewart – representing the Green Lantern Corps.

While promoting Zack Snyder’s Justice League back in 2021, Snyder revealed his Green Lantern plans for the movie which unfortunately Warner Bros. did not approve in the final cut of the movie.
Snyder told YouTube’s Wonder Meg:

"

Well, the truth is I didn’t really get… [Ryan Reynolds and I] never really talked. So, my idea was there was going to be, if possible, there was going to be a Green Lantern in the movie. We started to kick around this idea, like, maybe if we brought Ryan in there could be two Green Lanterns in the movie. We could suggest a little more of the [Green Lantern] Corps kind of concept. So that’s the reality.

"

It’s a fact that Ryan Reynolds showed interest in being part of The Snyder Cut on several occasions.

Even though the Hal Jordan idea was scrapped, John Stewart was intended to be introduced as part of an Easter egg in the closing moments of the movie. But the character was cut from the original rendition of the film and Snyder was unable to revisit the character in the Zack Snyder Justice League cut due to a direct order from Warner Bros. According to Snyder, Warner Bros. requested the character be removed from the movie due to their plans to launch a Green Lantern franchise. The character of Martian Manhunter was brought in to take Green Lantern’s place.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released on HBO Max on March 18, 2021. It became the fourth-most-streamed film debut on the platform that year. The film was widely considered superior to the 2017 theatrical version and received praise for its direction, musical score, action sequences, performances (particularly Fisher), and improved character development.
