“Superman: Trunk or No Trunk!”

Earlier this week, filmmakers James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their upcoming project “Gods and Monsters” as part of the DC Cinematic Universe. The duo plans to re-imagine the iconic character of Superman as a beacon of hope. To kick off the excitement for this new take on the Man of Steel, James Gunn took to his Twitter account to conduct a poll asking fans their preference for Superman’s costume – with or without trunks.

Superman first made his appearance in 1938 with the classic red trunks that became a staple of the character’s costume. However, with the arrival of DC’s New 52 run in the comics and Zack Snyder’s take on Clark Kent in “Man of Steel”, the trunks were dropped. In recent years, the comics have once again shown Clark Kent sporting the traditional costume complete with the red trunks. This has left many wondering what the upcoming film will look like.

The poll results showed a clear preference for the trunks with a majority of fans voting in favor of this classic look. However, one Twitter user responded to James Gunn’s poll saying, “This is a terrible way to decide this. Do what Snyder did. Hundreds of suit designs and pick the best one. Don’t let twitter decide.”

To this, James Gunn responded by clarifying that the poll was not meant to decide anything and that it was just for fun. He stated, “Twitter isn’t deciding. This vote will not be turned into law. We’re having fun.”

So, while the poll may have been conducted just for fun, it does give a glimpse into what fans are looking for in their superhero movies. Will James Gunn’s Superman wear trunks or not? Only time will tell. Regardless of the outcome, fans are excited to see what Gunn and Safran have in store for the Man of Steel.
