Zack Snyder Reflects on Mixed Reception of Batman Vs Superman!

Director Zack Snyder has recently reflected on the mixed reception of his 2016 film “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.” During a chat with Rebecca  Johns about the screening of ‘Batman vs Superman’  at the “Full Circle” event, Snyder spoke about how the movie was received by audiences and critics alike.

Snyder stated that he believes the polarizing nature of the film was due to its deviation from the typical superhero formula. “I think a lot of people went into the movies for going like, ‘Oh, it’s the superhero romp, right? Let’s have fun with it.’ And we gave them this sort of hardcore deconstructivist, heavily layered, experiential modern mythological superhero movie that needs…that you really need to pay attention to. That was not cool [for them]. That’s not something anyone wanted to do. They were like, ‘What? No! That’s exhausting. How about, why do they fight at night?’ I hate that.”

Snyder’s comments suggest that he intended “Batman vs Superman” to be a more thought-provoking and challenging film than the average superhero blockbuster. The director’s desire to deconstruct the genre and explore the complexities of these iconic characters was not necessarily met with the same enthusiasm from audiences who were expecting a more straightforward action-packed film.

Despite the mixed reception, Snyder’s commitment to his vision is admirable. The director has always been unapologetic about his creative choices and has continued to push the boundaries of the superhero genre with films like “Man of Steel” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League.”

It’s worth noting that the reception to “Batman vs Superman” has improved somewhat in the years since its release. The film has gained a cult following and is now seen by some as an underappreciated gem of the genre.

In any case, Snyder’s comments serve as a reminder that not every superhero movie needs to be a lighthearted romp. The genre has the potential to explore deep and meaningful themes, and Snyder’s work is proof that there is room for experimentation and risk-taking in the world of comic book adaptations.
