David Denman, a new cast member of Peacemaker Season 2, recently spoke with Fortress of Solitude. He discussed his role as Keith Smith and working with John Cena. His comments reveal both the depth of his character and the respect he has for his co-star’s professionalism.
Exploring Keith Smith’s Alternate Reality
When asked how Keith might have turned out if he had survived in Chris’ original dimension, David Denman reflected on the alternate reality introduced in Season 2:
“Oh, that’s a good question. Yeah, I don’t know. Because the dynamic is so different in the new dimension with the father, right? The father is such a huge force. In the first season of Peacemaker, he’s this racist – just a horrible human being and horrible to his sons. It would have been a very different version of Keith than we see in the other dimension, because in that dimension, his dad’s nice in there, and they’re supportive and have a strong bond between the three of them.
So, yeah, I don’t know. That’s an interesting question. I think he probably still would have been protecting Chris, and I’d like to think that he would have stood up to his father at some point and stopped the abuse. That’s where I think he would have gone. That’s my hope.”
This insight gives fans a fascinating look at how alternate realities shape character dynamics and deepen the storytelling in Peacemaker Season 2.

David Denman Praises John Cena’s Professionalism
David Denman also shared his admiration for his co-star John Cena, whom he met for the first time during filming:
“John is such a unique individual in all the best ways. A true gentleman and a consummate professional, he is incredibly kind to everybody around him and was very open and vulnerable. We had to do a lot of sensitive scenes between these two characters, and seeing his vulnerability was a beautiful thing to watch. He’s an impressive man. Besides being this giant – a monster of a human – he’s also smart, quick-witted, and very funny.
Between takes, he spends time learning the piano, studying Mandarin, or reading a book on philosophy. It’s like, ‘Man, just take a break.’ [Laughs] He’s always working on something, which is impressive. Meeting him can feel a little intimidating, but he’s so disarming that it’s truly a joy.”
Denman’s praise highlights Cena’s dedication, versatility, and positive influence on set. Consequently, it becomes clear why he’s one of the most respected actors in the industry. In addition, his professionalism and work ethic set a strong example for everyone on set.
Peacemaker Season 2 explores alternate realities and complex character dynamics. As a result, fans get more than action—they witness performances shaped by mutual respect and professionalism. Moreover, David Denman’s reflections provide valuable insights, which in turn enhance our appreciation for the series.
