James Gunn Debunks Batman and Wonder Woman Rumors

Of all the speculation, the biggest rumors focused on Batman and Wonder Woman. Together with Superman, they form the iconic DC Trinity. However, James Gunn has put these theories to rest. Responding to fans on Threads via Home of DCU on X, Gunn confirmed:

“All those rumors of Batman and Wonder Woman auditions are false.”

A fan asked if Wonder Woman was the female character being cast for Man of Tomorrow, and Gunn clarified:

“No. We are currently casting a female character in [Man of Tomorrow]. My only guess is scopers are taking a stab at guessing [Wonder Woman].”

This statement has effectively shut down months of speculation, though fans are still eager to learn which new hero will join the DCU in this film.

Who Could the Female Character Be?

With Wonder Woman confirmed absent, the new female character could be one of several DC heroes. Possibilities include Maxima, Renee Montoya, or Big Barda, the latter of whom is already part of the DCU animated series Mister Miracle. Additionally, this opens opportunities for introducing lesser-known but fan-favorite characters, adding fresh dynamics and expanding the DCU roster.

James Gunn has also hinted that the female character will have a significant role, which could set the stage for future appearances in other DCU films or series. This strategy aligns with his approach to world-building, where even supporting characters often become key players later in the overarching narrative.

Future DCU Batman Plans

Batman’s upcoming DCU film, The Brave and the Bold, will feature him alongside his son, Damian Wayne (Robin). While the project has faced delays, Gunn emphasized not wanting any DCU Batman casting news to overshadow Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II, which is slated for October 2027. Fans can expect the DCU Batman to debut around 2028, although a potential teaser in this year’s Clayface is still possible.

By clarifying these casting rumors, Gunn has refocused fan attention on the actual characters entering Man of Tomorrow. While Batman and Wonder Woman won’t appear, the film promises fresh surprises, new heroes, and compelling storylines. Fans can anticipate unexpected twists, new villain dynamics, and character interactions that will enrich the DCU’s cinematic world.

As the casting process unfolds, DC fans eagerly await further updates from James Gunn, keeping the anticipation high for what could be one of the most exciting DCU films to date. With each new casting announcement, the film’s potential continues to grow, building excitement for a superhero movie that balances legacy characters with fresh faces.
