Lanterns Season 2 has not been officially confirmed yet, but members of the show’s cast are already imagining where their characters could go next.
J. Alphonse Nicholson and Jasmine Cephas Jones, who play John Stewart Sr. and Bernadette Stewart, have revealed the storylines they would like to explore if the DCU series returns. Their ideas could give fans a glimpse at how John Stewart’s family might develop beyond the first season.
Lanterns Season 2 Could Continue John Sr.’s Story
Nicholson is hopeful that the series will return for another season. The actor pointed to the show’s strong early viewership while making his case for a renewal.
“Come on, 9.3 million in three days? We’ve got to get a season 2.”
If Lanterns Season 2 happens, Nicholson wants to explore more of John Sr.’s personal journey, particularly his attempt to make amends for his past.
“I would just love to see more of John Sr.’s redemption story, and to see how he shows up in the world.”
The actor believes there is also plenty of potential in exploring John Sr.’s relationship with his son.
John Stewart’s Family Could Get More Attention
Nicholson is particularly interested in seeing how John Sr. interacts with his son as the younger John grows older.
“I would love to see his relationship with a teenage John, what that might be like.”
That storyline could provide a deeper look at the complicated relationship between father and son while expanding the family history established in the first season. However, Nicholson also sees potential in another unexpected relationship.
Hal Jordan and John Sr. Have Unfinished Business
Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan could have an interesting connection to John Sr. if the story continues. Nicholson pointed to the unusual history between the two characters, saying:
“Hal robs him twice, and it’s really like, ‘Man, that’s crazy.’ Where does that go?”
That unresolved tension could create another storyline for a potential second season. With Hal and John Stewart already at the center of the series, bringing John Sr. further into their world could add another layer to the DCU’s developing Green Lantern mythology.
Bernadette Stewart Has More Stories to Tell
Jasmine Cephas Jones also has ideas for her character. The actress wants to explore more of Bernadette’s intense personality and the strength beneath her composed exterior.
“There’s something inside her that is like a raging fire. She’s so fiery, and I’d love to explore more of that.”
The character’s resilience was already demonstrated during a tense moment involving her family. Jones recalled:
“She takes the gun from John Sr. and immediately unloads it with little John strapped to her.”
That moment helped establish Bernadette as a fiercely protective mother. A second season could therefore give the character more opportunities to reveal the experiences and emotions that shaped her.
Has Lanterns Season 2 Been Confirmed?
For now, HBO, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. Television have not officially announced a second season. However, there are encouraging signs behind the scenes. Creator Damon Lindelof previously revealed that Chris Mundy has already assembled a new writers’ room, suggesting that conversations about continuing the story are taking place. That does not guarantee a renewal, but it gives fans reason to remain optimistic.
John Stewart’s DCU Future Is Already Set
Regardless of what happens with the television series, Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart has a future beyond Lanterns. Pierre is set to reprise the character in the upcoming DCU movie Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2027. That appearance could become an important bridge between John’s television storyline and the wider DCU.
For now, fans will have to wait for an official decision on Lanterns Season 2. However, with the cast already discussing potential storylines and a new writers’ room reportedly in place, the possibility of another chapter remains very much alive.
