Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow could bring a much more powerful version of Jaime Reyes into the DCU’s next major conflict. Xolo Maridueña has teased his return for James Gunn’s upcoming sequel, and his comments suggest that the Scarab could be pushed to its limits.
Maridueña did not reveal specific spoilers during a recent conversation with ScreenRant. However, his comments hint that Blue Beetle could bring the full might of the Reach’s advanced weapon into the battle against Brainiac. That could make Jaime one of the most important young heroes in the fight to protect Earth.
Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow Could Bring the Scarab’s Full Power
Maridueña teased his return while discussing how the original Blue Beetle has been embraced by Gunn and the new DCU.
The actor said:
“I feel tremendously humbled that what we created outside of what is now the DCU has been embraced by James Gunn and the rest of the people over at DC. And all I can say is that we’re coming back with ‘fire’. I can’t wait.”
The comment does not confirm what Blue Beetle will do in Man of Tomorrow. However, the reference to coming back with “fire” has fueled speculation that the Scarab could demonstrate abilities beyond what audiences saw in Jaime’s first movie.
The Scarab Could Push Its Technology Further
The Scarab is an advanced piece of Reach technology capable of adapting to different threats. Its technology can analyze an opponent and change its structure to create weapons or defenses suited to the situation.

That alliance is particularly unusual because Lex remains one of Superman’s greatest enemies. However, Brainiac’s threat could be large enough to force the two rivals to cooperate. The villain could reportedly attempt to conquer Earth or even shrink and bottle the planet, reflecting one of Brainiac’s most recognizable comic book concepts.

James Gunn is once again writing and directing Man of Tomorrow. The sequel will bring back several major characters from Superman, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.
Isabela Merced will return as Hawkgirl, while María Gabriela de Faría will reprise her role as The Engineer. Sara Sampaio is also returning as Eve Teschmacher. Meanwhile, Xolo Maridueña’s return will officially bring Blue Beetle further into Gunn’s DCU.
