James Gunn's Mister Miracle Casting

James Gunn’s Mister Miracle Casting has been confirmed, with Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis set to voice Mister Miracle and Big Barda in DC Studios’ upcoming animated series. Gunn revealed the news after joking that DC Studios co-head Peter Safran had accidentally spilled the secret.

The announcement offers the first major look at the voice cast for the adaptation of Tom King’s acclaimed 2017 comic book series. James Gunn’s Mister Miracle Casting Confirms Two Major Roles

Gunn shared the casting news on Threads, playfully blaming Safran’s “loose lips” for revealing the information early. Hutcherson will voice Scott Free, better known as Mister Miracle, the world-famous escape artist who can escape seemingly impossible traps. Meanwhile, Davis will portray Big Barda, a powerful New God who plays a significant role in Scott’s life.

The casting brings two established performers into the DCU’s expanding animated lineup. Although further details about their performances remain under wraps, their characters sit at the heart of King’s original comic book story. The series is based on King’s celebrated Mister Miracle comic book run, which debuted in 2017. Rather than focusing exclusively on superhero battles, the story explores Scott Free’s personal struggles, relationships, and confrontation with mortality.

Peter Safran Praises Tom King’s Mister Miracle Adaptation

Tom King is developing the animated series and has written all eight episodes. Safran praised the writer’s work and explained how his experience on Lanterns helped prepare him for the adaptation.

“I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns, and he adapted his book Mister Miracle fully on his own and wrote all eight episodes, and I think it’s just dynamite,” Safran said.

King previously worked as a co-creator and executive producer on Lanterns, the DC series featuring Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. His involvement gives the animated adaptation a direct connection to the original comic book material. Moreover, writing every episode allows King to shape the story’s overall direction while translating his acclaimed work into an animated format.

Nathan Fillion Returns as Guy Gardner in Mister Miracle

The James Gunn’s Mister Miracle Casting news also includes another familiar DCU character. Tom King has confirmed that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as Guy Gardner in the animated series. King praised Fillion’s performance and explained how the actor’s portrayal fits the character across different projects.

“He brings that energy to every aspect of it. And you would think it would be different tonally from [Lanterns], but it blends because that’s who Guy is. He’s that guy who is over the top. We all know that guy who’s a little bit like that,” King said.

Fillion’s return creates another connection between Mister Miracle and the wider DCU. However, the studio has not revealed how prominently Guy Gardner will feature in the story. Further announcements may clarify which other DC characters will appear alongside Mister Miracle and Big Barda.

What Is DC Studios’ Mister Miracle About?

The animated series follows Scott Free, a worldwide celebrity famous for escaping dangerous traps. Despite his extraordinary abilities, he faces a challenge that could prove impossible to overcome: escaping death itself.

The official logline reads:

“No prison can hold him. No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?”

The premise reflects the central themes of King’s comic book run, which combines superhero storytelling with psychological drama and questions about life and mortality. Big Barda also plays an important role in Scott’s story. Her inclusion in the adaptation means the series can explore one of the most significant relationships in the original comics.

Mister Miracle Release Date and Cast Details

DC Studios has not announced a release date for Mister Miracle. The studio has also yet to reveal the full voice cast or confirm when audiences can expect the series to premiere. For now, Hutcherson as Mister Miracle, Davis as Big Barda, and Fillion as Guy Gardner are the confirmed names highlighted in the announcement.

With King writing all eight episodes, the project has a direct creative link to its celebrated comic book source. Fans will have to wait for further updates to learn more about the animation, additional characters, and premiere plans.
