James Gunn has shared a major update on Creature Commandos Season 2. As a result, the update clarifies the show’s release timeline and its placement within the DC Universe. Although an official premiere date has not been announced yet, Gunn’s comments clearly confirm that the series is actively moving forward.
James Gunn Confirms Creature Commandos Season 2 Is in Production
Most importantly, James Gunn confirmed that Creature Commandos Season 2 is currently in production. In response, he addressed a fan on Threads who asked,
“When do we get more Creature Commandos?”
Gunn replied,
“When we’re done animating the new season which is in production now.”
This statement reassures fans that work on the new season is well underway. However, since animation typically requires a longer production timeline, the wait may still be significant.
Timeline Placement for Season 2 Revealed
In addition to the production update, Gunn also clarified the timeline placement of Creature Commandos Season 2 within the DCU. When asked whether the new season takes place before or after Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn responded simply,
“After.”
As a result, Season 2 will occur following the events of Peacemaker Season 2, suggesting a noticeable progression in the DCU’s overarching story.
Creature Commandos Season 1 Recap and Ending Explained
For context, Creature Commandos Season 1 aired from December 5, 2024, to January 9, 2025, officially launching the DCU. By the end of the season, The Bride, voiced by Indira Varma, took over leadership of Task Force M.
This ending set up major narrative possibilities and hinted at a shift in the team’s dynamics moving forward.
Returning and New Characters in Creature Commandos Season 2
Several familiar characters are expected to return in Creature Commandos Season 2. These include Doctor Phosphorus (voiced by Alan Tudyk), Weasel and G.I. Robot (both voiced by Sean Gunn), and King Shark, who previously appeared in The Suicide Squad. In addition, Season 1 introduced new characters such as Nosferata and Khalis, further expanding the team and increasing the scope of the series.
The confirmed timeline placement after Peacemaker Season 2 opens the door to new storytelling opportunities. Previously, Creature Commandos Season 1 took place before the events of Superman and Peacemaker. As a result, Season 2 could reflect a significantly changed DCU landscape. This shift has led to speculation about a possible connection to DC Comics’ Salvation Run storyline, which focuses on the government exiling metahumans to another dimension.
Zac Efron Likeness Approval Confirmed by James Gunn
In a smaller but notable update, Gunn also confirmed that Zac Efron approved the use of his likeness in the series. Shortly afterward, in a follow-up message, he wrote,
“Grateful that @zacefron signed off on letting us use his image!”
At this time, however, no additional casting announcements or release updates have been shared for Creature Commandos Season 2 or other related DCU projects.
Although fans may have to wait longer for an official release date, Creature Commandos Season 2 is clearly progressing. Furthermore, with production confirmed, timeline placement revealed, and strong narrative potential, the animated series remains a crucial part of the evolving DC Universe.
