Darkseid actor returns

Ray Porter, best known to DC fans as the voice of Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, is back. But this time, he’s not playing the tyrant of Apokolips. The Darkseid actor returns in a surprising new role—voicing Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian father, in the full-cast audiobook of All-Star Superman.

Darkseid Actor Returns with Star-Studded All-Star Superman Cast

The new adaptation, produced by Penguin Random House Audio, boasts a star-studded voice cast:

  • Marc Thompson as Superman
  • Kristen Sieh as Lois Lane
  • Christopher Smith as Lex Luthor
  • Ray Porter as Jor-El

While fans praised Porter’s menacing portrayal of Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, his time in the role was brief due to DC not being interested in continuing the Snyderverse. With the DC Universe now rebooting under James Gunn and Peter Safran, Porter’s return marks a rare but exciting crossover from past to present.

Ray Porter’s re-entry into DC continuity is more than just a trivia note—it may be a sign of legacy actor integration. Other SnyderVerse stars have also found new life in the reboot:

  • Jason Momoa, originally Aquaman, will now play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
  • Viola Davis remains as Amanda Waller, anchoring DC’s continuity across projects.

Previously, Porter expressed gratitude for his role as Darkseid, saying he never expected more opportunities within the franchise. However, this new casting has reignited fan speculation. As a result, many are now asking—could James Gunn eventually reintroduce Darkseid, with Porter once again lending his iconic voice?

All-Star Superman’s DCU Connections

There’s more to this than just a voice gig. All-Star Superman is one of the key inspirations behind James Gunn’s upcoming Superman (2025) film. That makes Porter’s role as Jor-El particularly significant.

Could this be a test run for future involvement? With Gunn’s track record of blending new talent and legacy casting, Ray Porter may very well be back in more ways than one.

Ultimately, Ray Porter’s transformation from the voice of evil to the voice of Superman’s father highlights just how flexible DC’s reboot strategy really is. Moreover, as more SnyderVerse actors continue to resurface in new DCU roles, fans can look forward to exciting surprises — and perhaps, even a long-awaited return to Apokolips someday.
