The journey of a movie does not always end after its theatrical release. While some films struggle to find success on the big screen, they can later connect with audiences through digital platforms. That appears to be the case for a recent DCU movie, which is gaining attention after arriving on premium video-on-demand.

Despite facing challenges during its box office run, the film has now reached a new milestone at home. Its strong digital performance suggests that more viewers are discovering the latest DC Studios release after its theatrical debut.

Supergirl Tops Fandango at Home’s Digital Chart After Theatrical Struggle

Supergirl has made a strong start on digital platforms by reaching No. 1 on Fandango at Home’s premium video-on-demand chart for the week of July 27–August 2. The ranking is based on revenue generated from digital purchases and rentals.

The film secured the top position ahead of Disclosure Day and Scary Movie (2026) – Extended Cut. Additionally, the Supergirl & Superman 2-Film Collection entered the Top 10, ranking at No. 10.

This achievement gives the DCU movie a positive boost after its difficult theatrical performance.

DCU Movie Finds a Second Chance Through Digital Release

Although Supergirl struggled at the box office, its digital debut tells a different story. The film earned around $124 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $170 million.

However, its arrival on digital platforms has helped the movie reach a broader audience. The film became available digitally just 32 days after its theatrical release, making it one of the fastest recent DC releases to move into the home entertainment market.

While digital success cannot be directly compared with theatrical earnings, topping the Fandango at Home chart shows that audience interest remains strong.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl and Jason Momoa as Lobo.

The movie also features Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and David Corenswet in supporting roles.

The story follows Kara as she travels across the galaxy alongside Krypto while helping a young companion complete a personal mission for revenge. The film expands the DC Universe with a cosmic adventure that explores a different side of Supergirl’s character.

Supergirl Receives Mixed Reviews From Critics and Audiences

The response to Supergirl has been divided among critics and viewers. The film currently holds a 53% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences have responded more positively with a 73% Popcornmeter score.

The difference between critic and audience reactions highlights how the movie has found appreciation among some viewers despite its challenging theatrical performance.

Furthermore, its digital success could help introduce the film to audiences who skipped its initial cinema release.

The strong home entertainment debut gives Supergirl a chance to build a larger audience beyond theaters. Although box office numbers remain an important measure of success, digital platforms have become a major way for films to connect with viewers.

As the DC Universe continues to expand, the film’s performance at home could help strengthen interest in Kara Zor-El’s future within the franchise.
