David Jenkins Confirms His Booster Gold DCU Series Version Is No Longer Moving Forward

David Jenkins has confirmed that his version of the Booster Gold DCU series is no longer moving forward after more than a year in development.

Jenkins joined the project as writer and showrunner in 2025. During his time working on the series, he developed the pilot script and submitted it in 2026. However, the project never entered production with his creative direction.

Sharing the update, Jenkins wrote:

“My ‘Booster Gold’ won’t be moving forward. Can’t improve on Mahershala’s lovely statement so I’ll just apply it here as well.”

Jenkins was referring to comments made by Mahershala Ali about Marvel Studios’ delayed Blade reboot.

Ali said:

“For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on. Again, you had me under contract; they have billions of dollars. If they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. I feel ready to move on from the ‘Blade’ questions. Those questions are for them. They didn’t want to do it, so they should answer that question.”

Booster Gold Was Announced as Part of the First DCU Slate

The Booster Gold DCU series was announced in 2023 as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s first DCU slate.

The series follows a former football star from the 25th century who travels back in time using advanced technology. After arriving in the past, he uses his futuristic equipment to create a superhero identity.

However, his journey is different from traditional heroes because he initially seeks fame and recognition rather than simply protecting others.

The character is also accompanied by Skeets, his robotic companion who assists him throughout his adventures.

David Jenkins Developed the Series Before the Creative Change

After joining the project in 2025, David Jenkins worked on developing the story and shaping his version of the upcoming HBO series.

He completed and submitted the pilot script in 2026. Despite reaching this stage, the project did not move into production under Jenkins’ creative leadership.

As a result, his version of the series has been dropped, creating uncertainty about the next direction of the project.

DC Studios Has Not Canceled the HBO Series

Although Jenkins’ version is no longer moving forward, DC Studios has not announced that the Booster Gold DCU series itself has been canceled.

Earlier this year, James Gunn confirmed that the project remained in development. Therefore, the series could still continue with a new writer or a different creative team.
