Wonder Woman remains one of DC’s most iconic heroes, yet her future in the new DCU is becoming increasingly unclear. While Superman and Batman continue to receive major projects, the Amazon warrior still does not have a confirmed new solo movie.
Instead, DC Studios initially announced Paradise Lost, a prequel series centered on the Amazons of Themyscira. However, the project has reportedly been sitting on the back burner at HBO after spending years in development. As a result, the DCU’s Wonder Woman problem may be getting even bigger.
Wonder Woman Still Has No New DCU Movie
Wonder Woman is the only member of DC’s Trinity without a newly announced solo movie in the DCU’s initial slate.
Superman, meanwhile, has already become a major part of James Gunn’s new DCU. Batman also has several projects connected to the broader DC universe. Wonder Woman, by comparison, has no confirmed live-action solo appearance on the immediate horizon.
That gap is especially noticeable because the character remains one of DC’s most recognizable superheroes.
Paradise Lost Was Supposed to Explore Themyscira
When James Gunn and Peter Safran announced Paradise Lost, the series was positioned as an important part of the DCU’s plans for Wonder Woman’s mythology.
Rather than immediately introducing a new version of Diana Prince, the project would explore the Amazons of Themyscira before Wonder Woman’s eventual return.
The series was also described as having a Game of Thrones-inspired approach. Therefore, political conflicts, rivalries, and power struggles among the Amazons could have given the project a unique identity.
More importantly, Paradise Lost offered DC Studios a way to expand Wonder Woman’s world without immediately replacing Gal Gadot’s version of the character.
Paradise Lost Reportedly Sits on the Back Burner
Unfortunately for fans, Paradise Lost now appears to be facing a difficult road ahead.
The series has reportedly spent around three years in development. Despite that lengthy development period, there is still no clear production timeline.
The reported slowdown has only increased concerns about Wonder Woman’s place in the DCU.

Because of that history, the lack of a clear DCU plan for the character stands out even more.

James Gunn previously hinted at a potential animated Wonder Woman project. However, there have been no major updates suggesting that the project is moving forward.
Consequently, fans are left with very few concrete details about when the character will return.

Paradise Lost Could Have Been an Important First Step
The original idea behind Paradise Lost made sense from a storytelling perspective.
By focusing on the Amazons first, DC Studios could establish Themyscira and its mythology before introducing a new live-action Wonder Woman. This approach could also help create some distance from Gal Gadot’s previous portrayal.
Additionally, the Game of Thrones-inspired concept could have allowed DC to explore the complicated relationships and political conflicts within Amazon society.
However, if the project remains stalled, that strategy could ultimately leave Wonder Woman waiting even longer for her DCU debut.
For now, Wonder Woman’s future remains uncertain.
