The Joker is back — but this time, not in the streets of Gotham. Instead, he rises from the heart of the Aztec Empire in an ancient world filled with blood, ritual, and madness.

DC’s upcoming animated film Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires hits Mexican theaters and HBO Max on September 18, 2025. In this bold reimagining, Omar Chaparro voices the Joker, reintroduced as Yoka — a former priest driven to madness.

A Ritualistic Joker Like Never Before

Forget the gangster suits and playing cards — this time, the Joker takes a darker path. Instead of chaos for laughs, this version draws heavily from Aztec mythology and spiritual horror. Yoka, once a devoted priest who carried out human sacrifices, eventually lost his sanity through the very rituals he once led.

In the trailer, he appears with pale, cracked makeup, conquistador-style armor, and ceremonial jewelry. Moreover, one chilling shot shows him holding a blood-dripping knife over a skull, his eyes closed in eerie silence. Clearly, this isn’t chaos for fun — instead, it’s darkness born from ancient fear.

Yoka’s appearance is a fusion of classic Joker traits and Aztec visual culture.

Joker and Two-Face: A Sinister Alliance?

Surprisingly, the trailer hints at a collaboration between Joker and Two-Face, the movie’s main villain. Joker’s chilling line — “Put your trust in me” — suggests that he may be pulling strings behind the scenes.

While Two-Face’s goals are driven by revenge and power, Yoka seems more calculated and manipulative. Expect betrayal, chaos, and schemes that could change everything in this twisted empire.

What Is Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires?

Set during the Spanish colonization of the Aztec Empire, the film follows Yohualli Coatl — a young Aztec boy who eventually transforms into Batman after his father is brutally murdered by the conquistador Hernán Cortés. As the story unfolds, Cortés later becomes Two-Face following a violent encounter with Catwoman. Interestingly, in this version, she takes on a more heroic role, acting as a fierce warrior rather than a traditional thief.

The film reimagines Gotham’s characters through a culturally rich, mythological lens, blending history, legend, and legacy into something both familiar and entirely new.

Other Villains in the Aztec Batman Universe

  • Two-Face: Transformed from Hernán Cortés after a disfiguring attack by Catwoman.
  • Poison Ivy: Seen defending the natural world, likely as an Earth guardian.
  • Catwoman: A powerful Aztec warrior who catalyzes the rise of both Batman and Two-Face.

Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires premieres September 18, 2025, in Mexico and on HBO Max.
