DCU’s Justice League Update: No Team Yet, But It’s Coming
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, DC Studios co-head James Gunn gave fans a significant DCU’s Justice League update. He confirmed that while a Justice League movie is planned for the future, it won’t appear early in Chapter One: Gods and Monsters or in Superman (2025).
“Of course, of course [it’s coming]. But there is no Justice League in this world… not yet.”
– James Gunn
Overall, this clearly shows that the Justice League will form gradually, rather than all at once.
Corenswet Reacts to Justice League Team-Up Possibility
Although David Corenswet’s Superman will debut with several heroes, such as:
- Mister Terrific
- Hawkgirl
- Guy Gardner
- Metamorpho
However, Gunn clarified that these characters don’t form the Justice League. Even though promotional tie-ins refer to them as the “Justice Gang,” Gunn is intentionally reserving the official Justice League name for something much bigger.

When asked whether Kal-El might eventually become part of the Justice League, actor David Corenswet responded humorously but with interest:
“I like to stay blissfully ignorant… If Justice League is in [Gunn’s] mind, that sounds great to me. I’ll put it in the back of my mind and we’ll see what happens.”
Even the actors are in the dark about when the DCU’s Justice League will officially unite.
Core DCU Heroes Already in Play
Here are the confirmed heroes of the new DC Universe so far:
- Superman (David Corenswet)
- Batman (The Brave and the Bold)
- Wonder Woman (confirmed to return)
- Green Lantern (John Stewart, via Lanterns)
- Hawkgirl (in Superman)
With these names already introduced, if Gunn adds:
- Wally West / The Flash
- Martian Manhunter
…the DCU’s Justice League could closely resemble the fan-favorite animated lineup from the early 2000s.
What’s Next in the DCU’s Justice League Update?
Although Gunn vaguely answered “Sure” when asked whether the Justice League will appear in Gods and Monsters, it’s clear he’s saving their debut for a meaningful, big-screen event.
This strategy allows for emotional buildup, giving fans a more satisfying and earned team formation, rather than rushing it.
