The DC Universe continues to expand under James Gunn. Recently, fans received a much-needed update on two highly anticipated DCU series. While rumors about cancellations had been circulating, Gunn has now directly addressed the status of both projects.
James Gunn and DCU Chapter 1 Series Lineup
To begin with, DC Studios previously announced five television projects under Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. These include:
- Creature Commandos
- Lanterns
- Waller
- Booster Gold
- Paradise Lost
Although all five remain part of the official slate, updates on certain titles have become limited over time. Consequently, fans began speculating about potential delays or even cancellations, especially for lesser-publicized projects.
However, recent comments from Gunn reinforce that the overall DCU roadmap remains active and continues to evolve, rather than facing abandonment or heavy reduction.
Booster Gold Status Confirmed
Importantly, James Gunn clarified the status of Booster Gold, confirming it is still moving forward in development.
He stated:
“[Booster Gold] is in development,”
This direct confirmation helped calm growing fan concerns, especially since online discussions had suggested uncertainty around the project’s future.
In addition, writer David Jenkins, who joined in July 2025 as showrunner and pilot writer, also addressed the rumors. He said:
“As far as I know it’s still in the pipeline,”
Despite speculation beginning after Jenkins deleted several social media posts related to the series, his clarification strongly indicates that the project remains active and has not been shelved.
Moreover, Booster Gold is based on the DC character created by Dan Jurgens. The story follows a former college football star from the year 2442 who travels back in time using advanced technology. However, instead of becoming a traditional hero, he initially uses his knowledge of the future to stage heroic acts for fame and recognition, which opens the door for a unique mix of comedy, sci-fi, and superhero storytelling.
Paradise Lost Enters “Extreme Development”
Meanwhile, Paradise Lost is also progressing steadily behind the scenes, and James Gunn’s description suggests a strong level of creative progress.
He stated:
“[Paradise Lost] is in extreme development.”
This wording is particularly important because “extreme development” suggests that the project has moved beyond early conceptual stages and is actively being shaped in terms of writing, structure, and world-building.
Additionally, Paradise Lost is expected to explore the history and political structure of Themyscira, the homeland of the Amazons. Because of this, the series may provide deeper context for the Amazonian mythology within the DCU.
Furthermore, with a Wonder Woman film also in development, Paradise Lost could potentially serve as a foundational piece that expands and supports that broader narrative direction.
ames Gunn’s recent comments provide reassuring updates for DC fans. Both Booster Gold and Paradise Lost remain active projects within the DCU, with development moving forward at different but steady paces.
While uncertainty and rumors often surround large franchise projects, this update confirms that DC Studios is still committed to its original Chapter 1 slate. Over time, more details, casting news, and production updates are likely to follow as the DCU continues to expand.
