James Gunn has shared intriguing hints about John Cena’s Peacemaker as Season 2 prepares to debut on August 21 on HBO/Max. Moreover, the series is expected to reveal important details about the future of the DC Universe and, consequently, deliver major surprises for fans.
James Gunn Teases John Cena’s Peacemaker and DCU Plans
Speaking to ExtraTV (via CBM), Gunn said:
“I think you’re going to find out a lot this season of Peacemaker. This is a direct follow-up to Superman, although it should be said, it’s not for kids, it’s for adults. We kind of see where the DC Universe is going and we find out about where it’s heading from here. By the end of the season, there’s a lot of surprises.”
He also revealed that episodes 6-8 contain major twists; moreover, these twists were intentionally withheld from advance screener copies sent to the media, thus ensuring that fans experience the surprises firsthand.
Is This the Last Season for John Cena’s Peacemaker?
While fans wondered if Season 2 would conclude Cena’s run as the antihero, Gunn, however, hinted at a possible fourth project. Furthermore, he stated:
“We call it the Tighty-Whities Trilogy—between The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker Season 1, and Peacemaker Season 2. Are we going to make it a quadrilogy? Probably, we’ll see…”
Season 2 explores Peacemaker discovering an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. Consequently, this forces him to confront his traumatic past and, ultimately, take control of his future. As a result, this journey could significantly redefine his role in the DCU.
