Kevin Feige Praises Superman for Its Bold Storytelling

Feige was clearly impressed by how Superman throws viewers straight into its world without over-explaining characters or concepts. He said:

“I love how you just jump right into it. You don’t know who Mr. Terrific is? Tough. You’ll figure it out. You don’t know what this is? Just go, go. This is a fully fleshed-out world.”

This approach, while risky, earned admiration from the Marvel boss, who appreciated the unapologetic confidence of the film’s narrative.

Kevin Feige Praises Superman Star David Corenswet

Beyond the storytelling, Feige had special praise for David Corenswet, who takes on the mantle of Superman. Despite being unfamiliar with Corenswet’s earlier work, Feige found his performance highly impressive:

“I want to watch. Honestly, I can’t remember what he’s done. Before this, I didn’t really know him.”

He went on to call Corenswet “charming” and “a great, amazing Superman,” cementing his approval of the casting choice.

Kevin Feige Reflects on Marvel and DC’s Creative Relationship

In addition to praising the film itself, Kevin Feige also reflected on the long-standing, yet evolving, creative relationship between Marvel and DC. Following his viewing of Superman, Feige revealed that he and James Gunn exchanged messages — ultimately offering a rare glimpse into the mutual respect shared between the two rival studios.

“I think James had an influence on us, and I think we had one on him. We texted — I was telling him how much I enjoyed the movie, and he said, ‘Wouldn’t exist without you guys.’”

Ultimately, this candid exchange highlights how ideas and inspiration often cross studio lines — even between so-called rivals. In fact, Feige’s remarks further underscore the shared history and creative synergy that exists behind the scenes of both cinematic universes.

Superman’s Box Office Momentum

Meanwhile, James Gunn’s Superman is flying high at the box office. To start, the film opened with a powerful $125 million in the U.S. and $220 million globally. What’s more, it maintained strong momentum into its second weekend, earning an additional $57.2 million domestically — just a 54% drop. As a result, its total now stands at $235 million in the U.S. and $406.8 million worldwide, including a record-breaking DC opening in India.

What’s Next for Marvel?

While Superman thrives under Gunn’s leadership, Feige continues steering Marvel forward. He’s currently producing Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release next year. Meanwhile, Marvel’s latest theatrical release, Fantastic Four: First Steps, has just hit theaters. Directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, the retro-futuristic film features stars like Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
