DC Studios has finally released the first full New Clayface Trailer. The upcoming DCU movie looks set to deliver a disturbing mix of superhero horror, body horror, and psychological thriller elements.
The New Clayface Trailer offers a much closer look at Matt Hagen’s tragic transformation. However, it still keeps one major detail hidden. While the preview teases the character’s terrifying final form, it does not reveal his full comic-accurate clay appearance.
That major reveal appears to be saved for the theatrical release.
The New Clayface Trailer Reveals Matt Hagen’s Tragic Origin
The trailer introduces Matt Hagen before he becomes one of Gotham’s most terrifying villains. He is shown as a successful Hollywood leading man whose life changes after a brutal incident leaves him horribly disfigured.

As a result, Matt is forced to search for a way to restore his former appearance. That search eventually leads him to a cutting-edge treatment that seems almost too good to be true.
At first, the procedure appears to work. However, the treatment soon begins to affect more than just Matt’s physical appearance.
The official synopsis states:
“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured.”
The synopsis continues:
“Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting-edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self, but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiralling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”
Clayface Trailer Teases a Brutal Body Horror Transformation
Although the New Clayface Trailer does not show the character’s complete comic-accurate clay form, it offers plenty of disturbing imagery.
The preview features several intense body horror moments. One particularly shocking scene shows Matt appearing ready to cut open his own eyelids with a pair of scissors while aboard a plane.
That moment alone suggests that Clayface could be one of the darkest projects ever released by DC Studios.
Moreover, the trailer shows Matt’s body gradually changing as the treatment begins to have unexpected effects. His transformation appears to be both physical and psychological.
Consequently, the movie may explore the horror of losing control over one’s own body and mind.
Matt Hagen’s Full Clay Form Remains Hidden
Despite showing more of Matt’s transformation, the trailer deliberately avoids revealing his final comic-accurate appearance.
This decision could make the character’s eventual transformation even more impactful. Therefore, fans may have to wait until the movie reaches theaters to see Clayface in his complete form.
The choice also suggests that DC Studios wants to preserve at least one major surprise for audiences.
James Watkins and Tom Rhys Harries Break Down the Trailer
Alongside the New Clayface Trailer, DC Studios has also released a new trailer breakdown featuring director James Watkins and star Tom Rhys Harries.
The pair discuss several of the movie’s major moments and provide additional insight into the story.
Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen, the man who ultimately becomes Clayface. His performance will be central to the movie because the story focuses heavily on Matt’s transformation and descent into revenge.
