DC Studios’ upcoming Supergirl film has undergone a surprising creative shift just three months before its scheduled theatrical release. While the movie remains on track for its summer debut, a new update has revealed another major change behind the scenes.

James Gunn and Peter Safran oversee the new DC Universe, and Supergirl is part of that expanding franchise. Because of that, every development surrounding the film has attracted strong attention from fans who are eager to see how the DCU continues to expand.

Importantly, Supergirl will play a key role in shaping the future of the franchise. Therefore, even small creative updates quickly become major talking points within the DC community.

Supergirl Composer Change Revealed Ahead of Release

The official Supergirl website now lists composer Claudia Sarne as the film’s music composer. This update follows earlier reports that Tom Holkenborg, widely known as Junkie XL, would handle the score.

Originally, the project had been linked to acclaimed composer Ramin Djawadi, who is best known for his work on the HBO series Game of Thrones. However, reports last month indicated that Holkenborg had replaced Djawadi during production.

Now, with Sarne officially credited on the film’s website, the Supergirl production appears to have undergone yet another creative adjustment shortly before release.

Nevertheless, such changes are not unusual for major blockbuster films. Music scores are often refined or adjusted during post-production to better match the final tone and pacing of the movie.

Claudia Sarne’s Previous Film and Television Work

Composer Claudia Sarne brings a significant amount of experience to the Supergirl project. Over the years, she has contributed to several notable film productions.

Her film credits include:

  • The Book of Eli (2010)
  • Broken City (2013)
  • Triple 9 (2016)
  • Corazón (2018)
  • Earthquake Bird (2019)
  • Lost in the Jungle (2024)
  • Love+War (2025)

In addition to her film work, Sarne has also contributed to several television projects. These include the series Outcast, The Defiant Ones, and Black Mirror.

Because of this diverse background, many fans believe she could bring a fresh musical style to the Supergirl film.

Similar Creative Change Happened With Superman

Interestingly, this is not the first time a DC Studios project has experienced a late-stage music change. A similar situation occurred with the upcoming Superman (2025 film). Initially, composer John Murphy had been announced as the film’s composer. However, just three months before the movie’s release, it was revealed that David Fleming had also contributed to the score.

Eventually, both composers received official credit for the final soundtrack. Therefore, the latest Supergirl update may simply reflect normal post-production adjustments rather than any major creative issue. Moreover, music teams frequently collaborate during the final stages of blockbuster productions to ensure the score perfectly complements the film’s emotional tone.

Cast and Story Details for Supergirl

The upcoming DCU film is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl.

Alcock previously appeared briefly in Superman (2025 film), which introduced her version of the character to audiences and set up her standalone adventure.

The film also features an impressive supporting cast, including:

  • Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills
  • Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll
  • David Krumholtz as Zor-El
  • Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze
  • Jason Momoa as Lobo

The official synopsis states:

“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”

Based on early details, the story will reportedly explore a darker and more emotional journey for Kara compared to previous live-action portrayals of the character.

Importantly, Supergirl will help expand the cosmic side of the new DC Universe. The film is expected to introduce several characters and elements that could play a role in future DCU stories.

Because of this, many fans are eager to see how Kara Zor-El’s journey connects with the wider universe that James Gunn is building. Additionally, the inclusion of characters like Lobo suggests the movie could introduce more intergalactic adventures within the franchise.

Despite the recent creative changes behind the scenes, Supergirl remains firmly scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2026. With its release now only months away, fans will soon see how Kara Zor-El’s story unfolds and how the film fits into the growing DC Universe.
