With Superman set to premiere on July 11, 2025, excitement is rising. The film marks the official launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe (DCU). The reboot promises crossovers, character reintroductions, and bold storylines. One of the most anticipated events is Superman and Batman’s meeting, which fans have long awaited.
James Gunn Teases Superman and Batman’s Meeting
During a promotional interview, director James Gunn responded to a fan-favorite question: What would Superman think of Batman when they meet?
“Well, first of all, we don’t know he hasn’t already seen a man dressed up as a bat. I think that he would probably see a kindred spirit in that. Another crazy person, wearing a crazy costume, with a very different intent.”
His playful, cryptic answer hints that Superman and Batman’s meeting may not only be inevitable — it might already have happened offscreen. Gunn’s use of mystery here adds fuel to the speculation, giving fans plenty to theorize about.
David Corenswet on Superman and Batman’s Meeting and First Encounter
When asked the same question, David Corenswet, who stars as Clark Kent in the upcoming Superman film, responded with open enthusiasm:
“Excitement. I don’t know whether he knows about Batman’s existence or not. We haven’t talked about that. But as soon as he finds out there’s a man dressed as a bat protecting his city, it’s like, ‘I want to go check that guy out.’”
This statement highlights the hopeful and curious nature of Corenswet’s Superman. Unlike past versions, which often viewed Batman with skepticism, this Superman feels different. He seems eager to connect with other heroes rather than judge them.
Batman’s DCU Debut Is Just Around the Corner
Even though Gunn and Safran haven’t revealed many details yet, we know that Batman is coming. The upcoming film The Brave and the Bold is confirmed to introduce both Batman and Damian Wayne, his son who takes on the mantle of Robin.
Development Status: The script is in progress, and Andy Muschietti (The Flash) is confirmed as director.
Although the casting remains a mystery, this project will formally introduce the DCU’s new Batman, finally paving the way for that much-awaited team-up.
The DCU Is Laying the Groundwork
While Batman’s appearance remains in development, DC Studios is actively building the new universe. Here’s what’s in motion:
- Supergirl – Finished filming
- Clayface – Lead actor has been cast
- Creature Commandos – Premieres December 2024
Additionally, Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) is already weaving the universe together, appearing in Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, and Lanterns. This interconnected approach ensures that future crossovers, especially Superman and Batman’s meeting, will feel natural and well-earned.
Superman Hits Theaters July 11, 2025
With Superman ready to launch a new era, and Batman’s debut fast approaching, it’s only a matter of time before these two titans of the DCU meet on-screen. Based on the excitement from both Gunn and Corenswet, fans can look forward to a fresh and thrilling dynamic between them.
