The Batman 2: Reeves Explains Its Elseworlds Status

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves clarified his position. He explained how his Batman saga relates to the broader DC multiverse. When asked about Gunn’s praise and the possibility of collaboration, he stated:

“First of all, I’m very flattered. That’s very kind of James to say, and it would be really exciting to work with them, of course. And we are working with them on this. I mean, it’s DC, it’s like Elseworlds, but it is DC, so it’s theirs as well. But what the future brings and what I am doing will be clear when it comes.”

This statement shows that while Reeves’ films are standalone stories, DC still recognizes them as part of the multiverse.

Future Collaboration and DCU Possibilities

Reeves also addressed whether he might direct a project directly within the DCU:

“We haven’t talked about anything like that. We have had conversations about how things would work, and all that kind of stuff, just in general, and so of course, it would be a lot of fun.”

Although no official plans are in place, Reeves’ openness suggests that future crossover possibilities, however small, remain on the table.

Reeves Focuses on Concluding His Batman Saga

Despite speculation about the DCU, Reeves emphasized that his priority is completing his own Batman storyline:

“What I really want to do is I want to play out these stories that we began and make that sort of arrive at the conclusion that I hoped we would arrive at at the beginning, but it’s very exciting.”

Fans can expect The Batman 2 to maintain Reeves’ signature grounded and noir-inspired vision for Gotham, separate from the main DCU. The film is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027, after several delays.

With Reeves committed to his vision, The Batman 2 promises to conclude a story that has captivated audiences while leaving the door open for potential multiverse connections.
