Is Adria Arjona the DCU’s New Wonder Woman? James Gunn Responds

Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role

Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role has become even more mysterious after James Gunn addressed growing speculation surrounding the actress’s upcoming DCU appearance. The Man of Tomorrow sequel is already shaping up to be one of the DCU’s biggest projects. David Corenswet’s Superman will face Brainiac alongside several returning heroes and new characters.

However, Arjona’s character remains one of the movie’s biggest unanswered questions. Trades initially reported that she would play the villainous Maxima, but significant speculation now suggests she could instead portray Wonder Woman. Gunn has now pushed back against another theory involving Arjona, making it clear that fans have been reading far too much into Frank Grillo’s recent social media activity.

Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role Is Still a Mystery

Arjona previously confirmed that she filmed her scenes for Man of Tomorrow while the movie was “wrapping up.” The Andor star described the experience as a “Great experience” and revealed that the cast and crew held a small dinner to celebrate the movie.

“Great experience. We had a nice, little dinner to celebrate. David was there, and Nick was there. I was just happy that it happened as the movie was wrapping up, so we could celebrate the moment, celebrate the movie, and celebrate the reunion with James and Peter. It was really fun.”

The timing of her filming has fueled speculation that her character could have a relatively small role. At the same time, such an appearance could establish the character for a larger role in a future DCU project. For now, however, the importance of Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role remains unclear.

James Gunn Addresses Frank Grillo’s Social Media Post

The latest speculation began after Frank Grillo reposted an image that appeared to fuel theories about Arjona’s DCU character.

Some fans attempted to connect the post with the possibility that Arjona could appear as Wonder Woman or have a small role in Man of Tomorrow. Gunn directly addressed the speculation. Gunn explained that Grillo does not have inside information about Arjona’s character.

“I can assure you Frank doesn’t know who Adria is playing in the DCU and whether or not she has any sort of incredibly small cameo in MoT or not.”

Gunn also criticized the amount of speculation surrounding the repost, saying fans had made “wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much” of the situation. His comments make it clear that Grillo’s social media activity should not be treated as evidence about Arjona’s role.

Frank Grillo Says He Just Liked the Image

The situation became even clearer after an apparent private conversation involving Grillo surfaced online. In the exchange, Grillo explained that he had simply reposted an image because he liked it.

He was reportedly told that his posts involving Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle were creating confusion and could potentially disappoint fans. Grillo initially explained that he had reposted a photo he had seen on Instagram. He then said he would remove it and joked that he was not going to post anymore because he “can’t keep up with this.”

Grillo later clarified that he had seen the poster several times and thought it looked cool. He also acknowledged that he did not know what the speculation was about before apologizing. As a result, there appears to be no reliable connection between his post and Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role.

Could Adria Arjona Be Playing Wonder Woman?

The uncertainty surrounding Arjona’s character has continued despite the latest clarification. Trades initially reported that she had been cast as Maxima. However, fan speculation has increasingly focused on the possibility that she could instead play Wonder Woman.

There is currently no official confirmation that Arjona will portray either character. If she is playing Wonder Woman, her appearance could have major implications for the DCU’s future. DC Studios has yet to officially reveal its long-term plans for the character. Maxima, meanwhile, could also provide a connection to the wider DCU’s cosmic side. Either possibility would make Arjona’s reported role potentially significant beyond Man of Tomorrow.

Arjona Refused to Reveal Three Clues

Arjona has also been extremely careful when discussing her mysterious character. The actress was asked whether she could reveal three words connected to her role that audiences would only understand after watching the movie. She refused to provide them.

“Well, look… I don’t want to lie, but I also want to protect the audience’s experience. So, it’s a little dance that I’m learning to navigate, and it’s hard. It’s really hard. I almost got busted [earlier].”

Arjona then revealed that she already had three words in mind.

“Oh my God! Everything that I say is like… I just thought of three, but I just got into the DC universe. I really don’t want to get fired, so I’m gonna I’m gonna keep my mouth shut. Is that cool? I’m just so nervous. I’m like, “What?” I have three in my head, which are pretty good, and if I say them, people won’t figure them out. But the people in charge will, and then I’m scared.”

Her comments suggest that the three words could potentially reveal something important about her character. However, they also show how carefully the cast is being asked to protect the movie’s secrets.

Man of Tomorrow Is Bringing Back Several DCU Characters

Man of Tomorrow will expand the world introduced in Superman. Xolo Maridueña will return as Blue Beetle, while Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart will make his big-screen debut after Lanterns. The sequel will also bring back several characters from the first movie.

Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, while Skyler Gisondo reprises his role as Jimmy Olsen. Isabela Merced will return as Hawkgirl. Sara Sampaio will also reprise Eve Teschmacher. Maria Gabriela de Faria is returning as The Engineer. Guy Gardner is also expected to remain part of the growing DCU lineup.

Superman and Lex Luthor Will Face Brainiac

The sequel will follow Superman and Lex Luthor as they put aside their differences to defend the planet from Brainiac. Lars Eidinger will portray the iconic DC villain. The story could therefore bring together a large number of heroes and villains while continuing the conflict established in Superman.

That crowded lineup could also explain why Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role may initially be smaller. A brief introduction could allow DC Studios to establish her character without making her one of the sequel’s central figures.

When Will Man of Tomorrow Be Released?

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. James Gunn is directing the sequel, with David Corenswet returning as Superman and Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as Lex Luthor. For now, DC Studios has not officially revealed who Arjona is playing. Gunn’s comments also make it clear that Frank Grillo’s recent social media activity should not be used as confirmation of her role or a potential cameo.

As a result, Adria Arjona’s Man of Tomorrow Role remains one of the sequel’s biggest mysteries. Whether she is playing Wonder Woman, Maxima, or another DC character entirely, audiences may have to wait until Man of Tomorrow arrives to finally get the answer.
