Hal Jordan’s Future in Lanterns Season 2 could become more complicated as the DCU prepares to expand its Green Lantern mythology. Although HBO has not confirmed Kilowog’s appearance, the iconic Green Lantern Corps member could be an intriguing addition to the upcoming season.
The first season of Lanterns focuses on Hal Jordan and John Stewart through a grounded, Earth-based story. However, the finale hints at a larger conflict involving the Guardians, potentially creating opportunities for more Green Lanterns to enter the DCU. While Kilowog’s arrival remains speculation, his history with Hal Jordan could make him particularly relevant to the next chapter of the series.
Hal Jordan’s Future in Lanterns Season 2 Could Involve Kilowog
Kilowog is one of the most recognizable members of the Green Lantern Corps. The eight-foot-tall Bolovaxian is the last survivor of his destroyed homeworld and serves as the Green Lantern of Sector 674. Like other Green Lanterns, Kilowog wields a power ring that transforms willpower into extraordinary abilities. However, his talents extend beyond combat. Before his planet’s destruction, he was a renowned geneticist with a genius-level intellect.

On Oa, Kilowog serves as the Corps’ drill instructor, training new recruits and affectionately calling them “poozers.” His role makes him an important figure in the development of younger Green Lanterns. Kilowog also trained Hal Jordan before Hal became the protégé of Sinestro. Since Sinestro could play a significant role in the DCU’s developing Green Lantern storyline, introducing Kilowog could help establish more of the Corps’ history.
Fans may remember Kilowog from the 2011 Green Lantern movie, where CGI brought the character to life and Michael Clarke Duncan provided his voice. Duncan died in 2012. However, DC Studios has not confirmed Kilowog’s involvement in Lanterns Season 2. His potential appearance remains speculation rather than an official casting or character announcement.
Why Kilowog Could Be Difficult to Introduce in Lanterns Season 2?
Bringing Kilowog into live action could present a production challenge because of his distinctive alien appearance and extensive visual-effects requirements. Furthermore, showrunner Chris Mundy has indicated that Season 2 will remain another “Earth-based story.” That direction could limit opportunities to explore Oa or feature lengthy adventures across space.
Nevertheless, an Earth-focused narrative does not automatically rule out characters who require substantial visual effects. HBO’s upcoming DC project The People v. Gorilla Grodd will feature a super-intelligent, talking ape, suggesting that effects-heavy characters are not necessarily off the table for DC television. Still, Kilowog would need a meaningful role in the story to justify his introduction. The series could also explore other Green Lanterns while gradually expanding the DCU’s cosmic mythology.
Could Kyle Rayner and Jessica Cruz Join Hal Jordan in the DCU?
Another possibility is for Lanterns to introduce additional human Green Lanterns, including Kyle Rayner and Jessica Cruz. Both characters could expand the DCU’s Green Lantern roster without requiring the series to abandon its grounded setting. Their arrival could also introduce new perspectives on the responsibilities of protecting Earth with a power ring.
Meanwhile, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner could become increasingly important as the franchise develops its Green Lantern storyline. Although the series has not confirmed these potential additions, they offer alternative ways to explore the Corps and its connections to Earth.
For Hal Jordan, meeting more members of the Corps could also create opportunities to explore his experience, leadership, and relationships with other Lanterns.
Hal Jordan’s Future in Lanterns Season 2 Could Bring the Corps to Earth
The first season’s finale may have established a path for the Green Lantern Corps to become more directly involved in the story. Guy Gardner warned John Stewart that the Guardians would “send an army” after him for going rogue. That threat could set up a conflict in which John faces pursuit from other members of the Corps while continuing to protect Earth.
Such a storyline would allow Lanterns to introduce alien Green Lanterns without shifting its focus away from Earth. Kilowog could potentially become part of that conflict, although no official information confirms this possibility. The Guardians’ response could also challenge John’s loyalty and force him to confront the consequences of his decisions.
At the same time, Hal Jordan could find himself caught between his responsibilities to the Corps and his relationship with his partner. This direction would allow the series to expand its mythology while keeping its central characters at the heart of the story.
What Hal Jordan’s Future in Lanterns Season 2 Could Mean for the DCU?
Hal Jordan’s Future in Lanterns Season 2 remains uncertain, but the first season’s ending leaves several possibilities open. Kilowog’s connection to Hal makes him an interesting candidate for a future appearance, while the Guardians’ threat could introduce additional members of the Green Lantern Corps.
However, neither Kilowog’s involvement nor the arrival of Kyle Rayner or Jessica Cruz has been officially confirmed.
For now, viewers will have to wait for more information about the next season. Whether the DCU introduces familiar alien Lanterns or develops its existing characters first, Lanterns has an opportunity to expand the franchise while continuing to explore Hal Jordan and John Stewart’s partnership.
